So...how did the texans go from worst team (with David Carr)....

They have a GREAT defensive coordinator with with some elite pieces in their front seven. They have a decent defensive backfield which doesn't have to cover as long due to their front. Offensively, they have a dual threat every down running back, who could be the league MVP when all is said and done. They have a great quarterback with one of the top five wide receivers in the game, and an underrated TE. Their line is strong in both run blocking and pass protection. Their F.O. has hit a ton of home runs in the draft, and they haven't been forced to overpay to keep players because they can't replace them in the draft....

We could do this for every year - but let's take a look at their 2009 draft (a fair comparison as 4 years in the league is usually enough to see who cuts it vs. who doesn't)

1. Brian Cushing - starter

2. Connor Barwin - starter

3. Antoine Caldwell - starter

4. Glover Quin - starter

4. Anthony Hill - no longer with the team

5. James Casey - starter

6. Brice McCain - nickel corner

7. Troy Nolan - 3rd string

2. Everette Brown - colossal bust, no longer in the league

2. Sherrod Martin - currently in a rotation with the worst starting safety in football

3. Corvey Irvin - no longer in the league

4. Mike Goodson - decent player who is now a backup for the raiders

4. Tony Fiametta - cut by the panthers, is barely still in the league

5. Duke Robinson - no longer in the league

7. Captain Munnerlyn - nickel corner, occasional starter, and sadly the best player we got in this draft

god the 2009 and 2010 drafts were such poo. 2008 too because that's when we started trading away first rounders which helped to knock down that first domino to oblivion even though we landed two sort of starters and one regular starter in that draft.

just picking someone, anyone in the first round in 2009 and 2010 with those picks would have made a difference.

mostly a mixture of good coaching and luck in the draft.

just like a lot of teams.

It also took them years of building.

this is something that is forgotten in the OP.

OP made it sound like they went from david carr to best in the league over night. carr hasn't been with the texans for 6 years. a lot of stuff has happened since then.

btw...lots if credit has to go to kubiak for what has happened, but it was something that required a ton of patience.

this is kubiak's first HC gig. he inherited a 2-14 team. he brought them up to 6-10 his first year. 8-8 his 2nd and 3rd years and didn't have a winning season until his 4th season. they didn't get into the playoffs until his 6th season and now they are considered the best in the league.

it took time and a lot of patience, but it paid off. people around here would probably have been calling for his head a long time before that because they want/feel they deserve immediate results. kubiak did nothing as far as record is concerned to show he deserved that much time but they gave it to him anyways and it's paying off.

i will add, tho, that the texans got themselves a new GM to help turn the team around after the '06 draft.

they also didn't keep around beloved players at the expense of building the team.

they let williams go and used that money on solid vet FAs and drafted well.
