Just got bit by a Brown Recluse Spider while on my Roof

About a month ago I was at work and there was this big ass spider like the one above. I took the dust mop and was going to shoo him outside, it was working for about 5 ft and then he turned and tried to run up the dust mop pole. I took off squealing, screaming and dancing all over the place. Everyone laughed at me.

After having only come face to face with a black widow maybe twice in my entire life, I've come inches from putting hand on top of one three separate times in this year alone.

I've seen more black widows where I live than any other place on earth. They are so bad that I don't do any work outside without leather gloves on. I carry bug spray with me too. I live next to a wooded area so that might explain the large number of them. One day this summer I saw 11 black widows on my property!

We also have a lot of orb weavers, which are awesome to watch. They build their perfect webs at dusk and then in the morning the webs are all gone. They are awesome spiders.

We have cellar spiders in our garage, i leave them alone, they don't do anything but hang out in the same web and eat bugs all day.

I don't typically kill spiders unless they are widows.

My Russian Girlfriend used to go to summer camp in Turkey. She said these spiders (I think they're huntsman spiders) were literally everywhere... and jumped...on you. And crawled over your face when you were in bed.

She swore up and down that they are in fact very passive and almost never bite humans. One guy even crushed one putting his foot in his shoe, and it didn't bite. But still, as a nearly paralyzed arachnophobic, the thought of hundreds of these fuggers running around and jumping on me. I'm fairly certain I would go into catatonic shock and piss myself.

Y'all are some fear mongers!

After being bit by a recluse, you can sometimes go several days without anything other than some irritation. It is when it starts becoming necrotic that you have to act faster. I had a lady at work get bit by one unbeknownst to her. after 3 or 4 days she started assuming it was a recluse and popped a couple antibiotics she had on hand. She went to the doc the next day and they got her on some runs of different ones and sampled the area to verify what was going on. They wrapped it up good for her and a couple weeks later she was fine.

Black Widows are more annoying to me because my dad has been bitten by one. Several hours after being bit (he didn't know he had been) he starts getting pain and cramping in his lower extremities. That night, he said it felt like every muscle in his lower body was cramped up in a vise/compactor and someone kept turning the lever. Screw that kind of pain! We have a lot of these around the house (even in the garage) and I'm steady on the lookout.

Neither are very deadly, and they both can cause pain. Both can cause damage if untreated. The difference is that the Recluse bite is more permanent.

Bottom line... if you're unsure, go to the doctor.

Also, a lot of people confuse a ton of spiders with the brown recluse. If I had to guess, OP got bit by a fishing spider or a house spider.

    • Yeah it is nice seeing some improvement on the defensive side and the young guys.   I don’t want to think about the future much if Bryce doesn’t heal and we are kept in this limbo via an incomplete test. It is depressing  I don’t have quite as dim a view of the 24 draft class as you do   I have modest hopes for XL compared to none. I like CSW.  Am a little cooler on Sanders but at the same time realized this week that Morgan getting that future 2nd for moving down turned into Scourton. I think. Jackson is a real value in exchange for the guy we took with the 7th. I don’t expect anything from Brooks but Wallace seems to have improved enough to not bust. And Coker is in with them, but is giving us nothing this year. So far, and it is almost half over     I hope Andy still has enough to make watching the offense less of a claustrophobic experience. And there is a small chance we upset the Bills but just playing them tough and making it a fun game to watch will be enough.
    • Bryce haters gunna hate.  Can't change that. Bryce has been pretty durable all things considered.  A couple minor injuries considering how much he was hammered year 1.  And he still takes hits.  Dude is tough. The play in question is a football play, poo happens.  That's ultimately what happened.  Guys running around, trying to stop Young and stuff happened.  Sucks but that's how it goes. For me, I'd rather see Young play.  He will either prove that he's the Dude, a JAG (leaning heavily right now), or an outright bust (some of you were there on draft night, lol)
    • I think we need to let the 2025 class develop. Remember at one point early during last season the 2024 class was gonna be a killer. And we had all kinds of people chirping about how the 2021 Draft was the greatest of all time. Early returns are promising. Let's hope it continues.
