The difference is the media is even beginning to realize how bad our play calling and coaching decisions have been.

I really have to wonder about the acumen of people who believe the ability af a quarterback to complete a pass on 3rd down is a "meaningless stat".

Cam Newton has one of the highest completion percentages in the league on 1st down.

He has one of the worst on 3rd down. (including an incredibly bad 38.9% on 3rd and manageable...3 to 8 yards).

In other words, Newton is great when the playbook is wide open and Chud can call whatever he wants, but he is terrible when the other team knows he has to pass. BUT IT IS THE COACHES FAULT. LOL. They really shouldn't put poor Cam in those 3rd and 5 situations. It is just asking too much...

They really shouldn't be, but you're too bias to see that third and long isn't a good thing. The play option is almost entirely to blame for those statistics. It's either a home run or a bust. Most of the time it was a bust that left us in a hole on third down.

Some people are just completely impervious to reality. 3rd and 3-8 is not a 3rd and long. They are very manageable distances. Just not when your QB is completing 38.9% of his passes in that situation. That is why the Panthers are 30th in the NFL in first downs. Sorry, you just can't get 3rd and 1 every time...just a reality check.

Okay so it's not third and 5, the range is now 3-8, and 8 yards is apparently manageable without an established run game? What the fug, are you retarded or are you that drunk on hatorade? Either way I'm going to block your retarded ass posts as it's damaging to the eyes and IQ.

We also have one of the lowest times of possession in the league. Less time with the ball equals less on all offensive statistics - including your "30th in the NFL in first downs".

The fact is that Cam's poor 3rd down percentage is a mixed bag of horrific play calling and accuracy issues. He's not absolved from blame, but there's more to the story than "Hey guys look at this statistic completely out of context!!!"

Sorry, you can't hide from his horrible 3rd down numbers and they can't be blamed on the play calling because while 3rd and 3 to 8, for example, is not a long yardage situation, it is an obvious passing situation. Your quarterback gets the ball, goes though his progressions (hopefully) and lives or dies with his throw or his decision to run. It really is not rocket science in those situations. Your quarterback just has to make a play. Cam Newton is just not making enough plays.

And, by the way, the Panthers problems with time of possesion are a result of their inability to convert 3rd downs.

Blah blah blah.... lets keep blasting our 2nd yr QB more because he is not perfect yet. Those of us who support Cam are not oblivious to the fact he still has to get better and has areas where he needs to improve. That being said, he is in his second season as a pro and there are plenty of other issues on this team. If the Giants listened to their fan base in Eli's first four seasons they wouldnt have two Superbowls in the past five years. Their fans wanted his head on a stick.

More useless stats:

Carolina 30th in NFL in total first downs, 29th NFL in passing first downs.

How about this useless stat...which team put up the most yards against the vaunted Bears' defense? The Cowboys, with 430. We only managed 416, good for 2nd best, with our terrible 2nd year QB.

More than GB. More than Indy. More than the Lions. More than the Jags. More than the Rams.

But yeah, we probably ought to just go ahead and start Derek Anderson.

Why do you think the bears have the number one defense. theyve played the jags, the colts, the rams, a struggling lions team. The team is not that good. Yes Cam needs to handle the pressure better. Tony as much of a troll you guys are calling him is right. 3rd down, redzone, 4th quarter Cam folds. Im not ready to throw him out, but he has to improve. He wants to dominate but he can't even win. I want a new coaching staff and hope we find out its a rivera problem, but what if its not?
