I used to be a proud Panthers Fan

The things I see on here are disgusting to say the least. I understand nobody likes loosing but the way so called fans bash this team is ridiculous. Lets start with OUR quarterback, yes I said our quarterback because I'm tired of seeing him overly criticized on here. I guarantee you if we were 5-2 like we should be you wouldn't see ridiculous threads about his footwork. It's cam newton a perfect qb? No not by any means but I think after last year people expectations went through the roof. He's only in his second year calm down. Remember when Eli manning was horrible well now he is a two time Super Bowl champion. What about Alex Smith? It's amazing what you can do with good coaching. Next lets talk about our Defense. This defense has the potential to be great but these coaches continuously put them in bad situations. And our offense lets be honest the offensive line is beyond suspect. That is the key to the lack of running game as well as Cams regression. Do you remember last year Byron bell was the weak link on the line now he's the strongest man that's scary. But how can you expect a 2nd year qb who is still developing to be able to have any success if we can't run the damn football. You don't go to having the greatest rookie season ever to a damn scrub. We have the talent on this team to be great. We don't have the coaches and as much as I hate to say it we don't have the fans.

I agree. But, the reality of the situation is that every fanbase has it's embarrassing contingent. The truth of the matter is that most people are idiots. I've just come to accept that. I operate under the premise that everyone I come into contact with is an idiot until I have sufficient evidence to show otherwise. I do this online as well as in real life.

People discussing specific and real aspects of the game is the exact reason places like this exist. If you think that is ridiculous then I'm not exactly sure what you come to a fan message board to see.

Criticizing Cam's footwork is fine, IMO. Not just fine, but legit. I enjoy those conversations. The idiots that think that Cam sucks and he's the problem with this team are the ones that I can't stand. Every player has strengths and weaknesses and I enjoy discussing those. But when you have a young QB with Cam Newton's talent, suggesting giving up on him because of a 1-6 start in his second season is just idiotic.

Ok maybe the footwork thing is fine although I think it's overblown giving the way the line has played this year

its every fans right to voice their disproval of their team. JR has ppl over a barrel with PSL's. You cant not buy tickets or risk losing your PSL so you cant voice your disatisfaction of the product on the field by not buying tickets. This forum is one of the few ways us fans have of having our voices somewhat heard.

    • He is a great guy but a horrible reporter. He makes my skin crawl when I hear his name. I heard that babies cry and dogs attack him when he enters a room. Other than that he is a good dude. Now go burn in hades u sum bit.
    • The job just really passed him by. He came up when basically you just needed to get three or four quotes, toss a couple of team provided stats in there, and stretch it out to column length. you got your copy in by 330, out the door by 4, then chill/shmooze the rest of the day. If you were really good you got a book deal. Every now and then you got to write an editorial. The goal of the profession was like Peter King where ostensibly you’re a beat writer for whomever but you get paid to just shoot the poo. now it’s a 24 hour job, you’ve gotta be social media savvy, the pace has increased substantially, you’re expected to produce more than ever, you gotta be able to look through bullshit etc. there’s still risk of industry capture where you just become a mouth piece. Sheena Quick is obviously shameless. I don’t think Newton ever aspired to be more than an inoffensive beat writer, but even that relatively simple role was just more than he was cut out for. its even worse when you’re covering a team that expects the Fourth Estate to act as a PR extension, or considers them on par with buying Twitter bots to promote Bryce. there were over thirty papers that covered the panthers first training camp. In that environment there’s room for boring guys like newton, and they may even be incentivized to push the boundary a little. But today that just isn’t the case and most of the guys are hanging on until retirement (person, gantt) or they’re good and gonna be matched up like Jordan. im not defending the current state of sports journalism, just saying that what counts as a meat and potatoes beat writer passed newton by. He’s retiring well past his sell by date, but that’s pretty common for his generation in general.
