Should we give up on a QB 25 games into his career?

I just can't understand how we've forgotten how to run, when that's all we've done well for the last decade. My only conclusion is a coaching philosophy that doesn't fit the personnel on the team.

I don't think we've forgotten how to run. Chud just doesn't have the patience to let it develop. Case in point; yesterday in the first half when we were ahead or tied for much of the half, his ratio of pass to run was 71%/29%.

Then, in the games when we are leading in the 3rd quarter, he can't understand why our running game can't impose it's will to sit on the lead. Running successfully requires commitment and time to develop. Chud just doesn't have the commitment or the patience.

I think this problem is accentuated when you play a powerful team like the Broncos. Chud probably reasons that we have to score a ton to keep up with them, so pass pass pass. But it's a self-defeating strategy as evidenced by our won/loss record.

Cam needs to be treated like a pro QB. That's the biggest problem. The option overcomplicates things and doesn't let him commit to have his arm make the plays. Both Norv Turner and Andy Reid are going to be fired by the end of 2012, probably sooner. Both of them will give Cam the development he deserves. I'd take Andy as HC but not Norv. Norv should be hired as an OC though because he is a brilliant coordinator, and on the plus side nobody will rip him from our grasp to be an HC since he's already failed twice at that. Three if you count Oakland, but their problems the last ten years have been administration related.

I think Norv would be a good fit with a HC like Arians.

As soon as Cam comes out and asks for a trade then evryone will be bitching about "Awww see, he didnt want to be here, hes a quitter, get out of town, we dont need you, LEAVE THEN!!!"

Even if we want to give up on him it's not really possible given the financial aspects of it. They need to fire every coach in the offseason and bring in a new GM to hopefully turn this thing around.

I am not optimistic though. I've lost faith in Richardson. Some of his comments and actions the past few years have shown he only cares about profits and the fact is people are still buying tickets.

I still believe Cam will be great and is the guy to build around. I seen many of the elites struggle early in the career. I didnt believe he would have a slump but he has and its mostly due to coaching staff. He isnt blameless and has tons of room for improvement. But people calling for a trade are you serious. You want to win now, but that would set us back another 5 years. We already are about to go to another coaching staff, that doesnt bode well, more rebuilding.

It is going to be 2-3 yers minimal before we are competetive again....to the degree we want. Either get on or off the rollercoaster, its going to be a long ride with lots of up and downs.

I don't think we should give up on Cam yet. It is obvious that he needs coaching to perfect excecution of the ball. He also must learn that "No Man Is An Island", and interact more with his team mates. In return, the team has to support their leader and do their job. I hope when the new GM is hired the necessary adjustment will be made to create a winning NFL franchise. I am really tired of wasting money on tickets to see a team that doesn't appear to have been coached or have a love for the game.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
