Peyton Manning Sound FX

old guard represents spots that need to be replaced regardless in the near future....

I find it funny the amount of people so focused on Cam sitting on the bench....his coaches are boobs and the all the guys with C's on their chest are from the old guard.

Cam has TONS of stuff to work on.....he is still, by far, the least of our current concerns. But lets keep talking about how cocerned we are about our leading rusher and the guy who is hit all game (who also had to play QB) sitting on the bench after each series.

this is what people aren't getting.

cam is special. he comes with an ability to influence, good or bad, the demeanors and attitudes of those around him. doesn't matter if that's too much pressure on him, it doesn't even matter if he wants that, that's just who and what he is. he is a natural leader. what happens when someone who has that much influence over others does nothing with it or, worse, can do little to control his demeanor or the emotions that are evident to others? losing. that's what happens.

no....there aren't others stepping up either. that's bad for the team, but none of them have the natural ability to lead or influence that he does.

he wasn't drafted #1 overall just because of his talent as a football player. he wasn't drafted #1 overall just because he was an "icon and entertainer" and could be the pretty face of the franchise. i'm sure those two helped, but what helped him stand head and shoulders above others, imo, was the influence he has on others.

right or wrong, cam has more power to turn the attitude of this team around than anyone on it...coach, vet, captain...doesn't matter. cam is more powerful and dynamic a personality than any of them and that's not really a slight on them either. cam has the "it" factor and he's just not using it.

i'm not going to make excuses for anyone else. i'm not going to make excuses for newton. i hold newton to a higher standard, though, because i expect more from him than other players. that's why he was drafted where he was and the others weren't.

i'm not bashing newton. i just don't think he's having the effect on the team that he could or should and he is the only one keeping him from having it.

it's not letting anyone else off the hook. cam has let the culture effect him rather than cam effecting the culture. no one forces you to accept another culture. newton allowed it to overcome him. it's up to him to stop it and turn himself around. the moment he does that is the moment the players around him stand up and take notice and rally behind him.

I am wo fuging tired of every fuging thig Cam does on the sideline being analyzed. He is a kid that has had this poo organization dropped on his shoulders. Is hang my fuging head too if I had so much thrown my way.

I hope the next staff has more patience and hope and tutoring than the current staff has implemented.

Fans forget, mainly b/c of last season, that Cam was/is a project. He needs help. He isn't getting it.

totally agree on that, but i don't think that cam's doing himself any favors at all either. he's putting just as much on his shoulders as everyone else is. he's not sharing the load and he's taking it all too seriously and personally. he expects perfection. he expects to be the one winning the game. if the team doesn't then i think he puts that all on him. i'm not saying he shouldn't be taking responsibility for his bad plays and decisions and i'm not saying that he should be throwing the coaches and players under the bus.

i think he's overwhelmed but i think it's a lot of his doing as well. he expected too much of himself too quickly. it's not happening like he thought, esp. this year, and you can see it. he's just as disappointed as everyone else is in how the season is going.

what makes a champion, though, isn't letting that stuff get the better of you. it's rising above it. it's fighting instead of throwing the towel in. i don't think he's given up, necessarily, but i also don't think that he's got the heart of a champion right now, either.

he's not the same guy he was at auburn or blinn, even. he's experienced loss and failure and he can't shake it off. what's going to make him great and make the team great is HIS ability to shake it off and rise up.

i just hope it happens soon.

Outstanding leadership and the ability to help everyone raise their game was the reason we kept delhomme around so long IMO. Say what you will but he expected to win and held his teammates to the same standard. Not that Cam doesn't expect to win but for whatever reason the guys don't seem to be picking up on that vibe along with him. As someone said earlier, a lot of it is him taking on the entire burden of the team rather than everyone else being accountable towards a common goal.

Natural leader or not, he still has to have people to lead. Old guard IMO prevents Newton from being able to step into the role he needs to be in. Just my opinion based on nothing but the tidbits we all get.

The "leaders" on this team want Cam to act "Carolina".

I hold Newton to a higher standard as well....but he needs water and sunlight to grow. Can't expect him to progress/grow regardless of situation he is in.

In threads about Cam I am being honest that Cam is not playing well and needs to improve.

Why is that an issue?

This thread is about Peyton Manning and it doesn't make any sense to compare a 2nd year qb to a vet. Its an issue because fickle fans like you praises him when he wins and then want to disown him when he loses. Like a previous poster stated Cam does the same thing in every game he has the towel on his head, he usually alone, and he if should score a td he does his superman dance. If they were winning games and he wasn't seen " Grab[bing] the photo folder. Look[ing] at what the defense is doing. Talk[ing] to your o-line. Talk[ing] to your receivers.Talk[ing] to your damn QB coach" you comment that he should act more like Peyton would be irrelevant. But being that they are not winning games it like open for you.

    • Now now now, I wouldn't say there is no logic, but there's just not a lot of in-depth thought put into Barnwell's  "analysis." Now to be fair to him (and other national writers), pre-season team rankings are basically clickbait. And...Barnwell, himself, said that "there's a lot of projection here." He basically admits that he doesn't know how the hell things are going to turn out with our receiver group. He also said that "I find myself" more intrigued by Coker than Legette; that does not mean that he said that fans should be, or that Coker will even be better than Legette (regardless of ESPN's per-route-run stat). So, yeah, Barnwell said some things, but even he has to basically admit that he doesn't know how bad or good that our playmakers will be in 2025.  Overall, what Barnwell is basically thinking is that the Panthers have gotten worse at the offensive skill positions, and baked into that is that others have gotten better. That's the argument in July (meaning, please don't give this any more weight than it's due). I would personally be surprised (not shocked) if we end up worse than the Titans, Pats and Giants at least. Once you throw in the Bills, Giants, Jets, Steelers, and even the Chargers, I personally think there are several teams' skill groups that may end up ranked lower than ours by the end of 2025.  @kungfoodudeis one of my dudes, but like others he is over the tipping point. He's had enough. Seeing is believing. I will say this though: Barnwell's piece is less about logic than just good ol' opinion. And to be honest, he might as well be a Huddler throwing out sh¡t in the summer based upon nothing but good feels or bad feels.  Our offense as a whole (just like any other team's) is going to depend upon the play of the O-line and especially the QB. How you can even rank the skill positions without expressly baking those two things in the cake is beyond me. I would dare say that that's not even logical.
    • Football is not the professional sport where timidness and apprehension are justly rewarded.
    • Bryce Young had a super high floor definitely at least won't be a bust safe pick we allegedly had seen in some time.......and went on to have one of the worst rookie seasons of all time.  They are all lotto picks.  And that is especially true for whatever they will be day 1 in the NFL.  I don't think Tmac is a sure thing year 1.  It's not like we watched him do his thing in the SEC.  He was a PAC12 guy.  I'm sure it will take time
