Bigger Problem: Offense or Defense?

Establishing the run requires patience. It wears out defenses. Just not in the first 5 minutes of play.

I know "ground and pound" and "Foxball" is considered non viable in the NFL today, but this team could actually pull it off. Especially with a QB that can make huge throws out of play action and take off when plays break down.

Even if we were more patient.....run game outside of Cam scrambling is a nightmare. We can't even run positive plays late in games.

we essentially telegraph our run plays. we have a predictable offense that is just as bad as when davidson was here.

Yeah, but think back to Houston last year, when we pulled off a 7 minute drive to end the game. Everyone on the planet earth knew we were running the ball. Yet we still did it against one of the best defenses in the game.

At some point, it comes down to "want to". Our o-line and associated blockers (TE's, FB's, WR's) are just playing like marshmallows. I just wish I knew why.

i have no problem with doing it over and over and over if it's working and we've got a solid rhythm going. i love the idea of beating another team into oblivion. find out what we do that works against a defense and then just keep doing it without giving them a chance to adjust.

we just don't do that nearly enough.

that's one of the things that i like about chip kelly. i think he found something that works with the guys he has and he just mercilessly beats the other team to death taking away and chance they have to adjust. that's what i want. i don't care who it is, i just want someone who will adapt to doing what the other side of the ball can't stop and keep doing it over and over...never taking the foot off the gas.

the offense is so bad....it can't even help the defense close out games.

if the offense just sustains a couple drives in the 4th qt...... the defense is giving up even less points.

Well in three games this year the offense sustained late drives in the 4th causing the other team to at least burn up their time outs and take the clock down under a minute and ensuring the opposing offense had horrible field position (ie the ATL game)...well we all know how that turns out.

Face it, the only reason why our defense is somewhat decent is because the opposing offense feels that it does not need to push the issue with our offense struggling. But when the time comes for the opposing offense to score...no matter how the horrible position they are in...it most certainly does...(save NO)

If Carolina had last year's offense...the Panthers would have last year's defense...

The Panthers Defense the last 3 years has been very poor...

The offense of course. The first couple of seasons with an inexperiened QB are usually going very to be painful. Cam might struggle and play poorly next season as well. That really shouldn't shock anyone. The way you make up for poor play from an inexperienced QB is by building a dominant run blocking O-line. You can either load up with great run blockers all across the line, or build up just the left or right side of the line. If you don't build a great run blocking O-line with a young QB, then you should expect a losing season. The losing seasons will continue until the QB gains enough experience to play at a high level, and it's impossible to predict when that change might occur, or if it ever will. Never bank on a young QB to carry your team. If he's still under his rookie contract, then you had better have a plan to run the ball that doesn't involve the option and guys like Hangartner.

We're going to have a high first and second round pick. No more B.S. Draft the best run blocking O-linemen availble, and trade down if the value isn't there. We go DT and Safety, then hello 4-12 unless Cam makes a huge leap in play. 17 points and a very good defense = double digit losses. Get road grating monsters up front and you've got 3rd and short, with your big money RBs about to break one. If we do anything else with this draft then forget about winning. Fix the offense.

The defense. They have much lower expectations hence them quitting or feeling like its a "bonus" to protect leads and close games. Our team is built to win predicated on our O putting up 30 every game which isnt realistic. Even when our D plays their best they still need our O to post 30 points. Other teams dont rely on their O for everything like we do. Their D's can actually go out and win games.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner...

According to some on the Huddle...last year it was the offense fault because they played well, but could not close it out...This year it is the offense fault because the defense played well, but the offense could not closed it out....

See the logic here: According the the Huddle, it is always the offense fault...As if the Defense does not get paid too...as if Special Teams is just a luxury...

I said repeatedly, if the Panther's fan base held EVERYONE to the standards they hold Newton to, we would be in a much better place as a team...

This is the lesson that the Falcons have learned...Offense, Defense, Special Teams...They are a team.

uhmmmm were you here last year?

wait, obviously not.

very few defenses could win games when the offense struggles to score more than 2 touchdowns a game, sometimes not even that.

besides, KT is an idiot.

wrong, the expectations of the offense were too high. don't worry, it's not all cam's fault. he has played fairly decent in most games, not spectacular, but decent.

It's a two way street.

The defense has directly lost the Panthers 3 games. Atlanta, Chicago, Tampa the second time. Yes the offense had an opportunity to run out the clock in each game and failed to do so. But with the game on the line, the defense had to make one final stop in each game, and failed to do it (twice against Tampa the second time).

I'll chalk losses to Tampa the first time, Seattle, and Dallas up to the offense not delivering. The losses to the Broncos and Giants were just a fail all around.

Both sides of the ball have been contributing to losses. You have to play well as a team to win, in all three phases of the game. Surprising were not sitting here saying special teams has lost the Panthers any games yet the ST coordinator got fired.

Peppers90 is beating his chest over a defense that directly won one game (redskins this year) in 2 seasons. Just one! Even when the D plays lights out we need 30 points and 100 qb ratings to get it done. Peppers90 is a player first fan named after the Bears DE but Im the idiot? Lol.

The fans who only watch the Panthers dont believe defenses exist that win low scoring games or close games out. Our defense is the end all be all.

To prove your genius then, tell me how many 30 point games the offense has had this year. THEN tell me how many times out of 11 we have 14 or less(hint for you since you tend to be slow -> TB is one of them since the DEFENSE SCORED)

Right we rely on 30 point games. PAHAHAHAH
