Panthers vs. Eagles Pros & Cons

What did you see that you liked? What did you not like?

Pros:

-Greg Hardy has continued to be a wrecking force. He is doing great against the run, pressuring the QB, and being one of the first bodies down field on special teams (which I imagine is terrifying for some of those little returners).

-While he was on the field, Jonathan Stewart ran like a man. He fights for yards and bowls over defenders. Being able to retain him was a bigger deal than some folks might realize, especially with his diversity as a back: he can pick up blitzes, he can catch the ball coming out of the back field, he can pound it between the tackles, and he can take it off tackle.

-Sherrod Martin came out at the start of the game playing like a man possessed.

-Amini Silatolu was blowing dudes up.

-DWill, while he hasn't been ripping them off when he has had blocking (which isn't very often), has been a whole lot meaner in pass protection than in seasons past.

Cons:

-Nate Chandler was the culprit behind Brown's big touchdown scamper in the first half. He followed the fullback and backed into James Anderson, which allowed the free released tackle to envelope both and seal them off for Brown to spring free. Neblett was also getting shoved backwards a few yards when he was in. I'm hoping that Frank Kearse can provide some help there, as the loss of big Ron might be bigger than many here think.

-Please stop running the option on 2nd down. If it's 2nd& 10, it is always for a loss. If it's less, it's for no gain. The only time I've seen the play have any remote success is when done on short yardage situations (make sense imo).

-Nakamura is terribad.

-Louis Murphy has hands made of stone. The big catch he had that was also called a PI he caught after the ball bounced off of his hands, then his face mask.

-Charles Godfrey is still missing tackles.

I'm really impressed with Greg Hardy's play. Talk about someone who has exploded this year. I seriously owe him an apology. I've said we should get rid of him, when in reality, he hadn't been horrible over his career. (He didn't deserved the criticism he gotten from me over the past two seasons) I'm sorry Hardy!

I would like to see us draft Devin Taylor, and we will truly have a four man monster rotation at DE.

Amini's second decent game in a row. He was really destroying people, he knocked Gross' guy down several times. Josh Thomas coverage, tighter than a ten year olds butt hole.

Didn't like Gross on skates, Amini saved him all night. Also didn't like Martin, never do. Josh Norman still plays too soft.

I like AE on kickoff returns, he looks comfortable. Good balance of patience and speed hitting the hole. Way better than than the Kealoha jog or the Joe Adams hokie pokie

I know we focus too much on Cam around here, but bear with me a minute...

It was clear the plan was to have Cam work on getting rid of the ball quicker and make quicker decisions. He generally did that very well, so kudos to him and Chud (ugh) for that adjustment. However, there was one throw to LaFell in the 2nd quarter that never should have been made. Cam was trying to get the ball out on a quick timing route, and he threw it without even glancing at the coverage. Although it wasn't picked, it could easily have been a pick 6. That's just one of those little growing pains every QB goes through, so I'm sure he knows it was a mistake and will work to correct it.

And yes, I'm worried about the loss of Edwards. We need to address the nose at some point in the offseason as neither Kearse nor Fua appear to be any kind of long term answer.

I second the praise of Hardy, as to me it seems well deserved. He and Johnson seem to have a chemistry and the talent that makes them a formidable force, something DCs will definitely have to game plan for. I also liked the blocking I saw from our RBs. And maybe it's just me, but I feel like LaFell gets more and more comfortable with each passing game. He seems to be growing into that Mushin Mohammad sort of receiver we've been missing for so long.

Pros - a W is far better than a L

Cons - we beat a very bad team with horrible defensive problems, their starting QB and RB out, and they #1 WR out before the half. Not sure that I'm as excited about this win as I should be.

would you put it past this team to give away a sure win or one we had in the bag?

huge step in the right direction. just finishing what the team started.

Agreed. I was still surprised they finished and pulled this one out.

With minutes left in the Tampa game, when we still had the lead I told my wife (jokingly) that we would lose the game. Much to my surprise I was right, when in all honesty I thought we had it in the bag.

Regardless of the opposition a W is a W and hard to complain about. I just wish I was more pumped up about it than I am.

pro's:

cam is capable of being everything we need him to be at the position, it was one of his good days and i want to say that is two games in a row without an int.

our players haven't given up and continue to play hard and want to win.

con's

i think it was obvious our defense game planned for anther 50 pass attempts by foles and didnt adjust to the run vey well.

our offensive line is still a joke

we have too many dumb penalties

teams are reading the option too good to run it so much

AE looks like hes really running kicks back hard now. i see him hitting the hole. this guy might finally be getting it....not saying hes not a bust but, i do see a slither of something in there.

Pros:

AE does look like he's running hard and hitting the holes now, but is it just me that thinks he looks like he's running in quick sand? He just doesn't look fast.

Martin played hard the other night, made some big plays and hits.

Cam looked marvelous throwing it sometimes and a few times he looked horrible... weird.

Cam running more was definitely a plus, and he is being smart and getting down instead of taking hits. I love that.

Cons:

Hardy making a clean tackle and getting a Personal Foul... that's BS.

Gross does not look good at all.

Chud is still a dumbass... line up in the I, run it well... oh well, that works, let's not do it anymore...

Timeout and time management are a huge issue for this coaching staff. Rivera is horrible at it and he also doesn't trust his players and now they KNOW it. As frustrating as it is for us... imagine how it is for them.

Pros:

The Kracken was out all night long.

Cam looked like the old Cam. Nice on the long ball.

Players are still playing

Cons:

Edwards loss is huge. Hopefully Stewart's ankle heals quickly.

Cam still inaccurate on those short throws.

We fired a kicker just to get another kicker that should be fired. smh

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
