Will Beason be a Panther next year?

Researching the issue turns up a number of FAQ type pages, and few are specific as to how the 2 year spread is divided up. However, back when the discussions were occuring about DWill being traded, I saw a ESPN article talking about the cap implications of his trade, and it clearly stated the charge was limited to the current year's proration in year 1 with the balance hitting the next year.

Thinking back on it, I believe it was Mister Love that posted the info first. He may have a better link with clear examples of how it plays out.

Regardless, a $13-14M hit spread out over 2 years is still pretty substantial, especially with the new caps in place.

But less than the 20 mil over 2 years we would paying him if he is a Panthers. So do we think he is worth the risk? That is the main point and what we have to found out.

$20 million was the signing bonus. The other figures listed by year are his salary for each year. Add them all up and it comes to about $49 million and some change. The rest is probably made up in roster bonuses and misc incentives.

There is none of the signing bonus left to pay. Don't confuse cap charge with dollars out of pocket. The $12 or $13 million cited throughout this thread refers to cap charges we have to take, not money due to Jon.

I guess I did not mean to say "left to pay" but how much of the distribution over the length of contract is left.

He hasn't played quality football in two years and is being paid like an elite, pro bowl player. I hope he comes back 100%, but I seriously doubt it. Beason will restructure or get cut. No team will keep paying big money to a player that doesn't deserve it for fear of taking a cap hit. This is ultimately a business.

Beason has a lot more pride than you guys give him credit for. He will fight hard for his position and money.

A lot of you guys are assuming he moves out of the Mike spot. Not sure or willing to assume anything... love Luke and his play, and he's been badass, but what we feel and what the coaches (Chico or whomever is here, next year) may be two totally different things.

This is also assuming he's 100% by next year too. Too many variables to consider. Only thing I can say with certainty is that he will be a Panther next year, due to that enormous contract extension he signed, if nothing else.
