1. Ron Rivera, Carolina Panthers

2012 record: 7-9

A strong second half of the season might not be enough to save Rivera’s job. Panthers owner Jerry Richardson fired longtime general manager Marty Hurney in October but opted to let Rivera finish out his second season. Quarterback Cam Newtonhas shown flashes of brilliance this year, and the defense has, indeed, improved, but the Panthers likely will look to rebuild — from top to bottom — this offseason. Ernie Accorsi’s working with Richardson as a consultant in their GM search. I doubt Rivera’s in that man’s plans.

Potential replacement: Darrell Bevell, Seattle offensive coordinator

Bevell’s offense in Seattle has evolved from week to week this season and now features QB Russell Wilson in the spread option and in position to harm teams both through the air and on the ground. Newton’s a dream specimen for a creative offensive mind like Bevell, who in 2012 showed his flexibility and ability to build an offense around its quarterback’s strengths. If Chip Kelly is asking for GM duties and the whole kit and caboodle, Bevell’s a nice alternative. The Panthers just might have to wait a few weeks to hire him.

Only posting this because the Bevell selection seems so out of left field.

Im starting to wonder if even JR knows what the hell he will do or if he has any plan whatsoever.. We have heard nothing from him. I mean its just sich an awkward situation.. Do you keep Rivera and tell the new GM to deal with it? If so then why even hire a GM? Does JR believe in Rivera so much he is willing to promote Beane just so there is no chance he is fired?

    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
    • Burns at 5-6 seems....a little aggressive.
