Former Panther Quarterback Jeff Lewis Passes Away

Recommended Posts

Broncos have a memorial page up (link)

Searching for details on why he died so young. Cuoldn't find any info, but did see that someone right now is selling two Jeff Lewis football cards on e-Bay.

Not to be mean or anything, but if this guy can get a decent price for those, he should immediately get a job as somebody's VP of Sales.

I remember when George Seifert dumped Steve Beuerlein and went after Jeff Lewis with the intent of making him the starter. I was in disbelief for probably a week.

If Lewis ever wound up playing a single snap in a game that counted for us, I've forgotten it.

I wonder the same thing how did he pass? I cant find anything online but im only 28 but 39 is still to way young to die/pass away. Sad News

39 IMO would suggest high odds of something unnatural...as well as when people suffer from a natural cause it is normally named quickly (battling a disease or heart attack)

I remember this as well. Those were strange days in Panther land. Loved Steve Beuerlein.

Seifert's a tool.

From what I've heard, George Seifert had a personality that would have made Gregg Williams proud.

I remember someone complaining about how John Fox used to always call injured guys "day to day". Darin Gantt replied that at least that was better than Seifert's standard line of "he'll be out one to six weeks"

That's a sad thing to hear. I remember when we signed him prior to the 1999 season to be the QB of the future. Then Steve Beuerlein stepped up and took the job for good. When Seifert cut Beuerlein prior to the 2001 season to make Jeff Lewis the QB it proved to be his undoing. Especially since Jeff Lewis didn't even make the team that year. If he keeps Beuerlein he might still have a job.

RIP Jeff Lewis.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
