If anybody here still remembers Nick Goings you'd never discount the importance of having that good forth or fifth RB.

He saved us when all the backs went down and had a good season and helped us limp into the playoffs that year if I remember correctly.

I'd keep em' stash them on special teams or something, but you need those guys when the chips are down.

Impossible to use them all correctly. Simply too many runners. You overpay.

Well, I think win now mode means.....the 2013, 2014, 2015 window.

Tolbert, Williams, Stewart trio don't need to be together in that window if we are serious about winning. Our cap situation is much worse in 2014 than 2013.

We need to start adding guys that play.....not watch from the sideline with our money.

Before the last season I looked at it the same way but if we had let DWill go we would've been screwed, another #1 type back was great insurance. I feel very very good about Skipper returning and my curiosity has me interested in what he'll do with all the talent along with Shula.

I don't think Chud was very good at managing the run game and may have neglected it by having all that money on the bench in Tolbert. Later in the year they started to utilize the backfield pretty well(after Stew went down), hopefully it continues and flourishes.

I'd like to keep a strength a strength and not let it go just yet. If they figure out the puzzle (talent vs cap) this offense could be very special and our QB may have a clean jersey for once.

I'm with you there but I think that the position is still a valuable one. Those were terrible contracts. I'll go back to Chud again on why Williams couldn't perform as well as he has before, the guy is still a top tier RB. When we lined up in the i and use more traditional formations the second half of last season Williams had breakout games and looked like the same 1100yd player he used to be. I don't think we can question the talent and potential of these guys but the contracts were indeed ridiculous and may force us to break up the band one day.

I thought this was going to be a well thought article explaining the financial difficulty of cutting Deangelo.

Not one reminding me that we give ourselves breathing room with a stupid argument for keeping him.

If ESPN insider's analysis was accurate, that we would save that 4.8 mil and not incur any costs, the smart thing to do would be to not hesitate to drop him, since there's no need for 3 starting running backs in this league, use that additional savings to fortify the oline, and sign some mid-late round/UDFA rookie who'll probably run for 600 yards easy while spelling Stewart since you can basically pick up a rock and find a productive RB at this point.

That in itself may be true, but from a fan perspective (at least mine) I would hate to see a league where most if not all teams pretty much played the same game with the same style. All contract/salary/cap stuff aside, if we can possibly have a team with something of an identity that differentiates us from others and be competitive, I would be happy with that. (being competitive the key point)

I do hope we can shore up our passing personnel, but that said I hope we don't become too much of a pass heavy team.

Somewhat off topic, but it has been mentioned several times about how the league is becoming/has become a pass first league... and we should devote resources toward that goal...etc etc.

That in itself may be true, but from a fan perspective (at least mine) I would hate to see a league where most if not all teams pretty much played the same game with the same style. I think we will run it more and a lot better with Chud gone. With the shift in the league I think you can still dominate on the ground like Houston, San Fran, Washington you just need the line and enough big play receiving options to keep them from crowding the box. I wish we had our Zone blocking scheme from 08. If you put that running game with Cam's arm/running it would be awesome. Oh yeah kind of like the Redskins O
