What's up with Chris Gamble?

Wrong. Gamble has only been one of the 'best' ONE of the past two seasons. Funny how Davis improved our run defense drastically, while we were 9th in most passing yards given up with Gamble starting, we are 20th without him.........

His 2011 season stats mirrored his 2004 to 2009 stats.

If those stats equal a overrated CB. I dont know what is a good one.

Norman shows a lot of promise, he just has to stop giving up that 7 - 10 yard cushion. It's funny watching him on tape to in that regard. He'll play tight to the line, but as the playclock drops he slowly walks back to that comfort zone...every time. Once engaged with the WR he maintains very good coverage, but getting to that point is the issue.

Ok what do you expect out of a guy who was drafted in the 5th round and came from a small school in NC. Plus he is a rookie learning the ropes. I'm sure if we mange to keep Gamble some how. Gamble can be a mentor to guys like Norman and Thomas. Norman will get better as time goes on. He was a rookie last year. What do you expect from a 5th rounder. LOL

The condescending tone of your response tells me you can't pick up on the fact that I'm a Norman fan and was trying to show that, on film, that's the only major flaw I saw.

However, to answer the question, I do expect him to learn from his mistakes when they lead to him continually getting burned. No better example that's the Bears game.

Here is the way I see it right now. Gamble may not be worth the money he use to be. But he is still a solid CB for this team. About the only solid CB right now to be on point. Plus FA will not really have any solid CB this year as I can see. Gamble would be on the top of the list of CBs for teams to go after when FA begins in less then a week from now. I'm really hoping Gamble will restructure his contract and stay. But who knows at this point. We got to do what we have to do at this point.

Point taken. Personally I would try to extend him 2-3 years with an incentive rich deal that kicks based on games played, performance, blah, blah, blah.

I really like both Josh's, but Gamble is a damn good CB I'd love to keep around as a key D player and as a mentor to the younger guys.

i never see gamble as a mentor type just because of personality, I played in a charity paintball tourney put on by DeAngelo Williams back in May-June 2008, there was a bit of a meet and greet with the players because my team in the top two and playing for the championship.

Gamble said two words the entire time I was there, and it was "yeah" and "sure" in response to DWill asking him a couple of questions.

Speaking of that, that day made me huge fan of Beason and Hoover, talked to them both a lot that day, Beason was cool as hell and Hoover was just a good old country boy, ah good times

Yes, if we release him we will save 7.9 million against the cap. However, no matter what we think they can be in the future, neither Josh is ready to be a #1 CB yet (nor is Captain if we keep him). So that means we will have to look at FA to find someone able to handle that role this year. And signing someone capable of handling the #1 CB role will likely cost 3-4 million at minimum...even for a 1 year rental. So that brings his cap savings down to about 4 million, and possibly less if we have to pony up more. But then we have to consider whether the new guy can be at least equal to what Gamble brings...and that's no sure bet with a bottom dollar vet CB.

Bottom line is that we have to decide if it is worth 3-4 million in cap space to bring in a different guy or just keep Gamble. And I would think that even he realizes that he probably won't make close to the 7.9 million salary he'll lose by us cutting him, and would likely be open to signing an extension to lower his cap hit by a few million in return for the possibility of a couple of more years here.

Yeah they are trying to keep him but they haven't come up with a solution to the cap problem. Unless they plan to extend for 2 years while turning this years salary into signing bonus I don't see it happening.

Yea they have thrown out restructuring contract to everyone who will listen and are waiting to see what may stick.Without a pay cut I do not see him staying.

Your logic is correct but I do not think we can afford him.My guess is we will try to hold on to him as long as we can either trying to work out a trade or hope he will restructure at a reduced rate.

I tend to agree, but you never know what he might be willing to do. If he recognizes that he will likely have to take at least a 3-4 million dollar pay cut to sign with another team, he might be willing to work something out with the Panthers to stay where he is comfortable and already knows the system. Now I don't think he will take a straight up pay cut, but it could be masked in an extension.
