Rotoworld's Free Agent forecast

If we could add Canty and Phillips with ours own Dwan, we could go Desmond Trufant at 14. Id would feel good without having to add a vet.

That's still a way to young group of CB. You have 1 rookie and 3 2nd year players as your CB group. No team is built that way. We can't make the same mistake we did with the DT in 2011. Thinking we can just play with young players and no vets. We need to add a vet to this young group more then another rookie.

I could see us go rookie at safety beside Godfrey.

Projecting us to sign Chris Canty and Kenny Phillips. Also provides what they think each top 100 FA will sign for.

I'd be happy with those two pick ups. Based on some the contracts that they're projecting for other players, I hope we try to pursue some of them as well.

Because of course, both are former Giants. And Dave Gattleman was with the Giants for many years. Way to go out on a limb there Rotoworld. This will NOT happen.

I'd hope we target Phillips rather than Canty. DT is a need but we'd be better off just re-signing Dwan. Canty isn't going to improve our run defense. Granted he did say he'd do a hometown discount. So I'm not opposed to him. But I'd prefer to have Phillips first.

Well, I think there is something going on behind the scenes regarding Canty, otherwise he would have signed with someone by now. He has spoken to a couple of teams. Canty is not bad. I believe he would help our run defense. He just needs to stay healthy. I'd like to re-sign Dwan and sign Canty.

Im sick of the phrase "sign our own" Thats what got us in this mess to begin with. Before you guys go full tard on me, take a breath and relax, I know we have to sign some of our own guys but we all know it was a little bit much over the past, idunno, 10 YEARS!!

Keep the guys that showed improvement or at least potential, cut the guys that are stagnant, bring in some fresh blood, pump up the fan base, keep Kalil outta the paper, Cam out of the headlines, Hardy off of the highway, CJ out of a falcons hat, JR out of the hospital, Rivera out of the Dog house, and Smitty in to the endzone. Just get out there and win some fuggin games for cryin out loud!

Yes, I agree that we'll be very young, but rookie cbs have proved that they can have success early on. We'll lack leadership and veteran experiences at cbs if thats the case. Though, if we can add Kenny Phillips to the secondary we now have two very good veterans in Phillips and Godfrey who can help these young guys out. We dont need leadership at cb. We just need leadership and experiences in the secondary as a whole. Phillips and Godfrey can give us that. Having a young secondary isnt like the torture of having two young DTs starting for you. The scenario is a bit different.

This may be the best way to go, than adding a vet corner and drafting a rookie FS. Dockery and Thomas played well late in the season when they had the chance. Might now be the long term answer but they do bring in some consistency. Hopefully Norman can get out of Rivera's dog pound. And adding a very good cover guy in Trufant would make us a better secondary than last season.

Some vet cbs we could bring in for leadership and experiences: Marcus Trufant, Drayton Florence, Quentin Jammer.

There are only two true needs going into next year. RG and UT. RG can be upgraded through FA for a reasonble price. It is that pesky UT position that you have to make the tougher decisions. Go young and hope, try to reenergize an aging vet, hope your own kids have grown into the position, or spend money on a proven vet. Are all ways you can address the UT position.

Our Oline barely has enough starting caliber talent let alone any depth. RG upgrade through FA goes a long way to solving both problems. RG and depth is needed. The Oline as a whole is a crucial point of the offseason.

TE is another position you can upgrade with a FA, Although at this position, this year, you get what you pay for. Lots of mid level TE, as well a quite a few top level ones. Not truely a need, but upgrading this position makes us better.

WR is a touchy situation. Do we have enough to compete? Do we want to invest in the future with a draft pick? Or do we go the FA route and spend money we don't really have. Not truely a need. But an upgrade could be a valueable addition.

Dline is in good shape. But if we want to improve, the UT position needs to be addressed. Another one of those, you get what you pay for, positions. Not sure how Gettlemen will play this one, but it is a need that needs to be filled.

The secondary played solid at the end of the year. So it is going to be interesting to see what we do here. We have no depth, or true #1CB, so something must be done. Excited to see how this one plays out. Not a true need, but upgrading the core should be near the top of the list.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
