not a big deal.

priority #1 is taken care of...we are under the cap.

we weren't going to be picking up a lot of players in the first day or two of FA. few teams will pick up more than a couple.

the pressure is off trying to get gross' deal redone right away. i mean it still needs to be done, but the smart thing for the team to do is wait a few days/weeks before really being active so the price goes down. players picked up right away in FA are always overpaid.

there will still be a poo ton of quality players on the street with more to come in the next few waves of FA. it's a buyers market. rather than make on big premium splash, we'll probably be adding several very solid but affordable players to fill holes.

whatever needs to be done to gross' and beason's contracts will be done in time.

I am simply worried that the franchise asked Gross to restructure and he has yet to comply. If today was the cutoff, like most of us thought it would be, not hearing anything at this point could mean Gross is on the chopping block. Which would be a huge mistake. Maybe I am reading too much into it and making way to many assumptions.

Which is why I asked the huddle's opinion. Or maybe this website isn't for inquiring about things, only posting about Cam handing out donuts in class

I guess it was wishful thinking on my part.I think we have screwed the pooch for the foreseeable future with bad contracts.I don't see any of these guys jumping on the sword.

I guess the question is can we replace Gross for a lessor amount that amounts to anything? I doubt it

acting snarky isn't going to help bring more discussion. you end up looking like a whiny bitch.

and yes...you are reading too much into it and making too many assumptions.

Gross is probably likely to retire in the near future.

Paycut? Doubtful. He probably would only agree to a restructure at this point if Carolina essentially threw cash at him to aid their cap situation. Gross has leverage here....I'd call the GM's bluff if I was him. I'd also tell him to go talk to your backfield and get back to me....

I don' see why a player would not be willing to participate in a restructure. It means more cash up front. A pay cut is a different thing altogether. I wouldn't worry about it, it will get taken care of (or not) regardless of worry.

I'm not disappointed players are volunteering to give up their money at the end of their careers.

It's a business to them, loyalty plays a very small part.

this. to us its little more than monopoly money b/c it's just an obscene amount of money. to them, it's a significant amount of what should end up being their retirement and their ability to support their family.

sorry, but there's no organization i would work for where i would volunteer to take less money unless my job or maybe the future of the company as in closing its doors for good. to take less money just so the org. had more cash for operating? nah....not my fault they didn't plan well enough.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
