Dwan Edwards weighs offers.

Panthers defensive tackle Dwan Edwards was one of the best bargains in the NFL last season, but the 31-year-old free agent is looking for more security this winter.

He might not find it in Carolina.

Edwards said Thursday he is weighing several contract offers, including a one-year offer from the cap-strapped Panthers. He indicated he was looking for a longer deal.

“It’s getting to the time in my career where you definitely start thinking about winning a Super Bowl,” Edwards said in a phone interview from Buffalo. “I wouldn’t say (the Panthers) were Super Bowl contenders. I think there’s an opportunity to make some noise in their division and get in the playoffs.

“If I’m not in their vision any longer than one year, it’s hard to think that (a Super Bowl run) is going to happen.”

Edwards would not identify his other suitors, but said one was a playoff team last season. He said he has been offered longer deals than the Panthers’, but would not discuss particulars.

Yeah, he's pretty much gone, with saying he wants to be with a contender and that the Panthers aren't that. lol. Yeah, he's out.

I'm not going to lie. Redundant thread is redundant.

That said, I sure hope we can work something out with him. He makes our line better. I really hate losing better guys. I can however, understand his need for a longer deal.

Give him his two year deal. Worry about cutting him next year if need be. I just want something done. All this waiting is giving me a headache.

"I think there's an oppurtunity to make some noise in their division and get in the playoffs"

Unless I'm interpreting it the wrong way.

He was referring to the Panthers with that quote. He's saying that the Panthers have potential, but aren't SB contenders, which is what he is looking for in a suitable team at this point in his career.

You are, as usual. Please work on your reading comprehension, for everyone's sake.

    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
    • I think google is confusing signing bonus with guaranteed money. If you get a guarantee of say $10 million, it doesn’t matter if the signing bonus is $5 or $8 million, it’s the $10 million number that affects the cap, as the signing bonus is always just a portion of the guaranteed money anyways. And again, I’ll admit I’m not 100% sure about it, but I’m pretty sure it is the case.
