Greg Hardy Is Seeking A Contract Extension

I literally can't believe my eyes when reading "trade hardy" by you dummies. Are you f-ing serious?! After this season when Hardy has 15 sacks, we will lock him up long term. Dropping Deangelo and Gross before 2014 season will give the Panthers room to sign Hardy and draft a left tackle.

With our cap the next two years how can we keep him? Better to get a draft pick than nothing

Before last season Hardy had proven nothing.

Hardy had shown flashes of greatness in past seasons. 4 Sacks and 11 passes defensed in 2011. Hardy can be one of the very best in the game, we can't just let him walk away. A 2nd round pick is no where near his potential value. We finally had a pass rush, a legtimate no BS pass rush for the first time 4-5 years and now you guys want it to get away. Teams will double CJ again and we will get toasted and ran on with scrub DT's.

We will find a way to retain him. Cam won't be an issue. We will lose Beason and Williams before that happens.

This situation is eerily similar to a few years ago when we were all worried about keeping both Stew and Deangelo.....look how that turned out. Granted I would much rather have big money invested in two DE's as oppose to two running backs, but hindsight is 20-20

Another thing to consider: In a few year's Cam's contract will be coming up. We can not be in cap hell when that happens. I suspect we trade Hardy

Trade, franchise (if he has 10+ sacks), or let him walk.

Can't afford two 10+ million dollar DEs.

You have to have many guys playing on rookie deals.

I know we love our own, but we cannot keep shelling out big money. Specially with the Cam deal looming.

Only positions deserving of 10+ million for elite play.... QB, LT, or DE. And we already have one DE.

Marty Hurney is posting.

Hardy isn't going to get a ton of money next year. There will be even more of a squeeze on players next year versus this. I could see us doing an extension though. It wouldn't go into effect until next year so it wouldn't cost us more cap wise but would give him a big signing bonus. On the other hand, that is exactly what Hurney would have done. Lets see if he can reprise his effort of last year before we sign him to a big contract. If he gets hurt, it would have been a huge waste of money.

You know how we will keep having scrub DTs? By paying our DE's a combined 20+ million a year. Taking 1/6 of your cap to play 2/52 of your players is how you end up with scrubs at every other position. Exactly the reason why we're hurting so badly at DB/WR/OG/DT, because we're paying multiple players at the same positions at RB/LB, don't need to add DE to that list.

Step 1: Endear yourself to the fans. Give yourself a nickname and make yourself available via social media.

Step 2: Step your play up.

Step 3: Get your agent to float the idea of a contract extension to the media

Step 4: Profit.

This guy's pretty smart.

But he retweets me on occasion, so I say do it.

How long are we tied to CJ's contract?

At some point in the next couple yrs could we shed CJ's contract while locking up Kraken for a reasonable sum without significant penalty?

Maybe our reluctance to sign anybody is Gman looking into this.

edit: I know we are broke. Sucks but a high second round pick for him would be smart, rather have Kraken than CJ long term...i hate the thought of either one leaving.

No we have scrubs at DT because we never put the talent on the damn field. We haven't drafted a 1st or 2nd round DT since 2002. We literally never singed a DT worth anything since Kemo and he was only good at taking up space.

We are weak at WR because again we never put talent at the position. No first round WR selections since what the late 90's? Haven't had a decent WR pick up since Muhammad returned at 50 yrs old.
