Why Passing on a WR in the first might not be a option

I have been a big supporter of trading down or drafting a WR in the 2nd round. But it is looking like if we wait til the 2nd round there might not be a viable WR at the 44th pick.

Most of you think I have been on the bandwagon to draft Austin at 14 because Im labeled a WVU Homer. That wasnt the case until now. I would much prefer us to trade down to the mid 20 picks and grab a extra pick in the 2nd or 3rd round. But that most likely wont happen. Looking at the latest mocks a lot of WR thought to be avaible at the 44th pick are moving up to the late first round.

So with said the 14th pick should be Austin or Patterson. If we can trade down to the mid 20's then we can grab either Hunter , Hopkins or Allen. To me we need to grab one of these in the draft. Honestly I couldnt care which one but anything past them wont help us down the road.

Wide receiver is one of the deepest positions in the draft this year.

Cordarrelle Patterson

Keenan Allen

Tavon Austin

Quinton Patton

Justin Hunter

Deandre Hopkins

Robert Woods

Terrance Williams

Cobi Hamilton

Da'Rick Rogers

Markus Wheaton

Aaron Dobson

Marquis Goodwin

Ryan Swope

You really think there's gonna be a run on all of those before we pick in the 2nd?

I have a feeling that "V. Cruz" or some later round draft stud is in our future, so instead we pick OL or DL. Too many big bodies at 14 to pass up.

Trading back would be ideal.

This fanbase I swear.

"LET'S KEEP PASSING ON WR TALENT LET'S FIND THAT DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH I MEAN IT WORKED WITH ARMANTI."

I mean seriously this Fanbase gets upset when Hurney tried to do that but then still wants Gettlemen to do it and this is why our roster is so weak holy poo.

True it is a deep class but there is elite and then there are the rest. I dont want the rest I want elite.

14- Warmack/Cooper

44- Best DL or WR available

I'm not against drafting OT in the first but

I'm still not sold on a fugin' Guard in the top 15 no matter how good they are.

If Fisher/Johnson drop to us though I'd take them in a heartbeat.

Let's see... Drafting Guard in top 15 is dumb. First round DTs have only 50% chance of being successful in NFL. Pick your poison...

In my opinion we need WR... Our #1 WR is 34 year old. Our #2 WR struggled mighty as #2 WR. We don't even have a clear cut #3 WR. I feel bad for Cam Newton...

Uuuuuugh why would you want a great receiving option when you can have aaron dobson I mean come on guiz!!!

It's truly stunning that Panther fans are content to let what is now one of the most important positions in football wallow in sub mediocrity after the parade of juco level busch league butt cheek biting retards we have had come through the position the last ten years

I MEAN WHY TAKE A RECEIVER WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY HIGH PROFILE GUARD PROSPECTS TO CHOOSE FROM THIS YEAR I MEAN AMIRITE OR AMIRITE GRRR HUZZAH GROUND AND POUND WITH THE BEEF! BRING BACK 1960's MANBALL!!

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
