Dave Grohl: 'TV talent shows make everyone sound like fuging Christina Aguilera'

Someone on my FB feed just shared this and I thought it was extremely accurate. What do you think?

I've got friends that are musically gifted and some aspire to make it on one of these shows, while I've told them, in my novice opinion, that they are better off doing local shows and building up a following, while creating their own "buzz" through social media and such. For one, I know that formula works, and two, those shows completely rip off the artists that win it and ***** them out.

I only watched like the first season of American Idol, and after that, I was just kind of disgusted with it.

Dave Grohl has hit out at TV talent shows such as American Idol and The X Factor.

The Foo Fighters frontman claims that many contestants are judged far too harshly by judges that are not musically talented.

Speaking in the current issue of NME he said: "I think people should feel encouraged to be themselves. That's what bums me out about those shows where people are judged so harshly by fuging musicians that hardly even play an instrument on their own fuging albums. It makes me really mad."

He added: "I swear to God, if my daughter walked up onstage and sang her heart out and some fuging billionaire looked at her and said, 'No, I'm sorry you're not any good,' I'd fuging throttle that person, I swear to God. Who the fug are you to say what's good or bad?"

Grohl also reckons the shows homogenise music so that "everyone sounds like fuging Christina Aguilera." The Foo Fighters singer added: "The next time someone says you're not a good singer say: 'fug You'. I interviewed Neil Young and he said in his band someone said to him: 'The band's really great, but honestly you shouldn't be the singer.' If Neil Young had listened to that person then we wouldn't have had any Neil Young."

I read once that Grohl kept all of his musical ideas to himself when he was a member of Nirvana because he did not want to cause any problems with the group or undermind Kurt.

I read that Kurt overheard him signing "Marigold", a track Grohl was working on completely solo and Kurt asked him why he never shared any of it, because Kurt thought it was amazing.
