My opinion...

Richardson would probably not be a day 1 starter for us since we re-signed Dwan Edwards and I tend to think we'll keep him at UT just like Richardson projects to be.

Could be a smokescreen but Rivera recently indicated Godfrey will be moving back to FS full time next season. Then again if we get a playmaking FS that could potentially move Godfrey back to SS.

However that seems unlikely as we just signed Mike Mitchell to compete with D.J Campbell for the SS spot.

The rest of the picks are a crapshoot anyway so I won't harp on them.

For some reason I just get the feeling you started working on this a while back and after the recent moves we have made it was too late for you to turn back.

I would actually be happy with that draft. Just because we resigned Dwan doesn't mean we don't need to take a high pick for that spot, especially if we can groom him early.

when we have Dwan already, Rich wouldn't start. In passing situations we bring in Hardy or Alexander to play the 3. On a roster full of holes, its dumb to waste a pick on a position that has production. WR, OL, NT are far greater needs at this point and aside from NT a better player than Rich will be there.

What's dumb is reaching in the draft for a position of need, rather than taking a great player who is available. we're not going to win the Superbowl this year, we're still building and recovering from our awful cap situation. This will take a couple of years. Filling holes to make a run is not how we should approach the draft.

Instead, we should look to build a solid foundation upon which to grow. Picking a DT here to have a year or two behind Edwards is not a bad play. I'm not saying it's the best move, or what we should do, I'm giving justification for why it shouldn't be considered a dumb move. Any strong lineman who turns into a 10+ yr stud will be a great addition from our first pick.

It's not just Edwards though, we bring in 3 ends on passing downs as well. Richardson is not going to be a great player. He is a horrible run defender when you run at him and only had 4 sacks. So a guy who gets pushed around and only has 4 sacks when that is his strong suit seems like the reach to me.

Your original argument was about the position saying, "its dumb to waste a pick on a position that has production." I'm not arguing players, just position. I'm good with any OL or DL player in the first round, that our FO determines has long term potential, even if its one that we currently have filled.

What is dumb is thinking that a team with 89, Cam, Stewart, Dwill, Olsen, Hardy, Johnson, and an all world LB group cannot make a run.

We have suspect lines and suspect DBs. We're good, but still building. You can't expect to be consistently strong without strong lines. Both of ours have talent, but are very thin. We're not a serious contender until we firm up those lines.

BTW...who's the back up for any of the people you mentioned above?

The Panthers really look like they are eyeing WR with their #1 pick after having workouts with Tavon Austin and Keenan Allen (who Ricky Prohel seems to REALLY like). But I think they'll just go BPA at DT, CB, OL, or WR. But I wouldn't count out safety in the first. Remember, they were set to draft Mark Barron in 2012 until the Bucs jumped on him.

no one's DT highlights look good..such a boring position to scout that relies on too many things except for seeing strength at point of attack and motor.

Id pass on DTs too if I was a GM unless they had the Suh career that is additionally confirmed at the combine in size strength and speed.

      Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.

      Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.

      Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
