Atlanta go to Clemson to stop read-option

No let's force him out in the open and hope a LB doesn't injury him while he's running for a first down or a touchdown.

If Cam can't drop back and throw with that OL, then guess what? We won't win many games no matter what scheme we utilize.

per his OC....Cam was banged up in the pocket, not running.

and can drop back....he did last year....just not all game behind that OL. He has to mix it up b/c the line stinks AND that is how he plays his best.

I'll take Cam Newton in the open field against 98% of the defenders in the NFL one on one. You wouldn't? He is flat out a great runner past the line of scrimmage...which is why we drafted him. His pass game is still evolving....his great running makes it less noticeable that he still has years to go in that department.

This is concerning, guys. Clemson held FSU's zone option attack to just 667 yards last year.

yeah, Atl has it backwards....Clemson is where you go to learn HOW TO RUN it. Not stop it. Clemson's OC is Mr. Pistol.

Good thing for our defense, they get to see the read-option every day in practice without having to go to a fugging college team. Good look Atl.

I feel you on this. When we played Washington, Keek and the boys busted them up like it was a non-issue. I was like I thought this Morris kid was good. RGIII looked pedestrian too. This is the reason I am not scared of SanFran.

There is a price you pay with every dual threat QB and if we don't start protecting him from a subpar OL and designed run plays then Newton won't last us 10 years. Having Cam as our lead rusher is a goddamn no-no.

we need to protect him when he throws...

limiting what makes him special isn't protecting him....just makes him not as good.

Cam was our leading rusher b/c we have too many RBs.....his yardage was fine at this point in his career. He is better than our RBs....so he has to get touches.

LOL, just goes to show that understanding how to stop the option isn't the same as stopping it.

The power of a well designed and executed option game is that it punishes whatever choice you make as a defense.

Clemson is doo-doo. Not good enough in basketball to matter in the ACC and not good enough in football to beat its rival in the SEC. Poor kids.

It's almost like Gamecock fans only acnkowledge the last 5 years of football.....which was pretty much Clemson domination prior to it.

If saying dumb things isn't called out around here the problem tends to get worse. Its the STD of the huddle.

Which part was the dumb part?

Using the standard terminology for NFL QB's that are capable of a multi-faceted game on offense as opposed to one-dimensional QB's (albeit, with regard to QB's like PM, that one-dimension is performed at a HoF level)?

Or intentionally misconstruing that commonly understood NFL terminology?

Or (even scarier) not even understanding said NFL terminology?

I tried to credit you with snark, assuming you understood the term as it is used when applied to NFL QB's. Now you're making me think I was being much too generous.

The best part is I'm not a gamecock fan. You're right though they disavow knowledge of football prior to Spurrier.

Cam is a better RB than J-Stew? And the reason why Cam was our leading rusher was because we have too many RBs?

You sir have been puffing.

Why? Because Newton is at a higher risk of injury when he's in the open field dodging DBs and LBs. That's why. It also doesn't comfort me either that majority of RBs in this league don't last more than a decade, so why risk it with Cam?

Newton has all the tools to be a great pocket-passer. He doesn't need the Read Option to succeed.

Cam is a better rushing threat....bc he creates a unique mismatch by position and his unique size.

Cam is the most dangerous aspect of our rush attack....

He isn't a RB. Never said he was...

Cam is a great runner and smart one. Bigger risk of injury from him being hit in the pocket than running in the open field. Past 2 seasons support that as well. Letting Newton run doesn't mean you then are treating him like an old school RB with a 5 yr NFL life....

One day Cam might not need his rushing....that isn't 2013. Read option is here bc Newton wants it...he has always had it. It was never a Chud "thing". A Newton one.

And yes, Newton can pass from the pocket...already has great deep ball ability from the pocket. He isn't Brady and won't be. Not sure why so many think he needs to be like player X. He will make his own blueprint if successful in the NFL.
