Hixon was named one of the 'best of the rest' by PFF

So what does that mean? He's the best of the worst? Just so everyone knows, he's has worse stats than Lafell over his career... and that is with playing 3 years longer... So whatever you expect out of this guy, don't get your hopes up.

#justsaying #draftwrhigh

If Lafell was on a roster with Nicks, Cruz, and Randle he would be inactive on sundays.

I think laFell has legitimate competition with Hixon on the roster. The bottom line when he is healthy and is called on to make a play he can do it.I like him more than Murphy

Some also would argue it is a case of the existing panther being downplayed and the new guy being overstated.

People are going on and on about Hixon's random clutch catches.....but isn't that pretty much EXACTLY what LaFell did?

I think we have two of the same guy...which is good bc both are better than the rest on the roster

Thats why I called it legitimate competition.

Gettlemen has improved the competition level at DB and WR, and DL. That is nothing to quibble over. We still have the draft, and FA is still going strong. So we will be adding more pieces along the way.

We are a better team now than we were last year. With a little luck, we will be even better by the start of the year. IF we start 3-0 the Homers will be out of their minds with glee. The realists will be telling us we could still go 3-13.

So I guess the question becomes. For those folks afraid of the future, what will it take for you to regain your faith?

Better talent at the back end of the roster should improve ST and depth.

A young and improving team, with a solid core, that got a taste of victory last year

A coach and a franchise QB both in their 3rd year

A Defense that finished strong got upgraded

An Offense that could be scary good

All legitimate reasons to be giddy over the future.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
