My Mock (Version 2)

Now that we are getting closer to the draft, and I have been able to see more of different prospects, my mock now changes to what SHOULD happen.

Provided some highly ranked players don't fall, I see it playing out something like this:

Round 1: Jonathan Cyprien, Safety. Rivera wants a safety for his defense. Period. He WILL select one in round 1 or two, and I honestly believe this is the guy he wants. He plays VERY similar to Barron and everyone knows had Barron been there, he would have been the pick. It was between Cyprien and Vaccaro for me, and the more I watched of Vaccaro, the less I liked him. It was the opposite for Cyprien. Obviously there isn't much out there to watch for Cyprien, but he stands out on the field, makes plays, tackles well, and proved himself at the Senior Bowl. Plug and play starter.

Round 2: Stedman Bailey, Wide Receiver. Weapon for the offense, and a day 1 contributor. He will man the slot in the beginning, but he will eventually be a #1 receiver. This kid has phenomenal hands, has a feel for how to get in the endzone, and will do all of the intricate things right to succeed. Only negative about Bailey is that he is a long strider, but he knows how to get open. And he will.

Round 4: Jordan Hill, Defensive Tackle. Finally got our run plugger. This guy is severely underrated and had a very good year for Penn State. He didn't stand out at the combine, so he has flown under the radar. He will start day 1 at nose tackle and our run defense is instantly better.

Round 5: Chris Faulk, Offensive Tackle. He would have been drafted much earlier if not for an injury that put him out for the season. He has nimble feet and is a road grader in the run game. He probably is rusty and slightly out of shape due to being out of football for a while but he will challenge Bell for the RT job, and at worst will start at RG. Value pick.

Round 6: Joseph Fauria, Tight End. Immediately will challenge for playing time as our second tight end and will be a very good redzone threat (Like he was in college) at 6'7.

There you have it. If the draft goes like this, the Panthers will have become a much better team. I do anticipate at least one trade from the Panthers before the draft is over, but since it is so hard to predict, I won't even try. Cheers.

I love Cyprien in the first, not really sold on Bailey as a second round pick. Would rather have Hunter/Woods/Allen/Patton if any of the four are there. Also with Hill I love his ability as a run stopper, but he will need to put on A LOT of weight to be an effective Nose....

Not bad...the consensus on Bailey is pretty wide right now. I've seen draft guys have him pretty high while others have him pretty low. Kind of the same boat as Justin Hunter and Patterson. So it really just depends on what the "panthers" think of him and they obviously like something bc they brought him in for a visit. I could definitely see this happening. If Da'rick Rodgers is there and we take bailey I'd be upset, not so much anyone else.

You would want Bailey over 6'3 Dobson who had the lowest drop % / best hands in college, who runs a 4.4 and makes circus / highlight catches?!??!?

    • This is always a non-story by the time camp begins.
    • I've really only begun to pay attention this week being that training camp is looming, so I was personally caught off guard by the fact that Nic Scourton remains unsigned. That's not necessarily bad news, but it's not necessarily good news either. Apparently it's a thing with this year's draft class. "Of the 32 players selected in the second-round, 30 remained unsigned and the clock is ticking. "Already we've seen one second-round pick hold out from the start of training camp with that player being Los Angeles Chargers' wide receiver Tre Harris. Harris did not report with the rest of the Chargers' rookies on Saturday due to his contract situation, a issue that could impact nearly every other team in the league. "For the Panthers, defensive end Nic Scourton is the player to watch for when rookies start showing back up to the team facilities next week. "The 51st overall pick is one of the 30 second-rounders who has yet to sign their rookie contract and the reason why is due to the other two that have actually signed. "Cleveland Browns' linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Houston Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins each signed fully guaranteed contracts as the first and second players drafted in the second-round. Prior to this year, second-round picks never received a fully guaranteed deal, only players selected in the first-round." https://atozsports.com/nfl/carolina-panthers-news/panthers-nic-scourton-contract-second-round-pick-training-camp-hold-out-tre-harris/ So, I suppose we'll see what's what pretty soon. It's definitely something to monitor.
    • overwhelming majority of kids in travel ball aren't getting scholarships though because most teams are rec caliber (and not watched by scouts)    and parents/leagues sort of helped create this system and narrative IMO where travel ball is now oversaturated and most of it is simply expensive rec ball.  is travel beneficial for some athletes to get more exposure? Sure. The ones travel actually existed for.   I still think travel has expanded entirely too broad at this stage......where they will now have 5 teams per year in your backyard area pending they can get parents to write those checks.   Ain't no scout ever laying eyes on 90%+ of the kids in travel ball at this stage of where it has morphed into.
