Kenny Vaccaro can play. I don't understand the bust talk. Every game tape I watch on him he is playing NFL caliber football on a high school level defense. If we pick him, he will be able to help us with the TEs we have in our division. The only problem I have with Vaccaro is that he didn't seem as excited about visiting us as he was with other teams. All I can ask for a prospect is that he wants to be here and that he doesn't have major injury problems (Keenan Allen!)

He's the only safety with even close to a top 15 draft value right now.

Elam is positioned around 30th with Cyprien around 34th or so.

Your talking about the 15th rated prospect compared to two guys rated in the 30's.

It's a pretty big difference.

The only one who had a chance to catch Vaccaro was Cyprien and that was if he ran great through his drills and had solid interviews.

His drills were sub par and I haven't heard any glaringly positive reviews on his interviews either. So he fell back down into the second round because of that.

If this is true, I guess we have no choice but to hope a pray that Austin is still there in the first. Much rather have Cyprien, (who will definately not make it out of the first round) and it's not even close. Just my .02

This is from my draft post in the draft forum, but Elam has passed Cyprien as the second rated safety in the class and is more likely of a first rounder then Cyprien.

I think Cyprien ends up going in the late first to San Fran.

I wonder if this would be the case if a guy like star falls to us or just of the guys they're expecting to be there

I wonder about this also, would austin or Vaccaro be taken over Star, hard to believe. What about DT, is that just a 2nd round deal??

I think if Tavon Austin is available at 14, of course you have to consider him. He will contribute as a wide receiver, runningback, and return specialist, immediately upgrading 3 positions.

The Vaccaro pick I don't think is really in play as much. He may be a fall back option, but I don't see him as being in true contention at 14 with some of the other guys likely to be there. Just my opinion.

Honestly I would be okay with this, but the Vaccaro pick would be questionable in my eyes. There isn't really a safety in this draft that warrants a top 15 pick, so I hope to God that Austin is still available. Who better to teach Austin than Smitty himself, the man that told the whole league being short isn't such a bad thing after all.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
