San Francisco 49′Ers Reportedly In Trade Talks With Carolina Panthers

Nothing to report here. I don't see much of a reason for the 49ers to trade up to a mid 1st round pick. Its too early to target a specific player given we are picking at 14. They might be dipping their toes in the water but I dont think there is reason to get excited.

I seriously think SF is targeting Sheldon. He's another MIZZOU guy like Aldon Smith. They have a big need at the Dline with only an aging Justin Smith. Panthers and Saints are two team projected to take Sheldon. We have shown little interest in Sheldon but maybe SF gets the feeling that Saints will take him at 15.

I would be interested in any offer the 49ers brought to the table if I were Gettleman. I do not see a guy available at 14 that would make a dramatic difference in our team. If we could get #31, a second rounder and a late pick or player it might be solid.

I'll take 31, 34 and a Cb like Terrell Brown if they're willing to let him go. Theyre packed at the corner position with Nnamdi, Rogers, Brown and Culliver.

This makes sense and is reasonable but I still would not expect things to evolve and be solidified until we are on the clock. If Star begins to fall, especially past 9 or 10 then all bets are off. Too many variables with 3 days til draft.

If SF is targeting (which makes sense but I don't think so), they'd have to trade up to no.7 infront of Buffalo to gurantee them that they'll get him. Bills could be a serious landing spot for Tavon. SF could trade up to 13 but if Tavon falls the Jets could still take him at 9. SF would still be without him. I think if SF is looking at 13 or 14, it's def Sheldon.

One general manager told Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports that he believes the 49ers are interested in trading up from No. 31 overall to the 13th or 14th spot.

This might be little more than dot-connecting, as the 49erssimply don't have the roster space for more than a half-dozen rookies. As one of a handful of NFL teams currently enjoying a wide-open Super Bowl window, it makes sense to leverage the extra picks for a difference-maker or two to help put the 49ers over the top.

Around the League's Marc Sessler suggested talented playmaker Tavon Austin could be in the 49ers' sights, as coach Jim Harbaugh has been at a high number of wide receiver workouts.

The talk around the NFL, according to Cole, is that 49ers general manager Trent Baalke would like to get a defensive lineman who can eventually step in for 33-year-old Justin Smith. NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah believes Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei could be a target if he slides out of the top 10 Thursday night.

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
