Cam Newton poised for breakout year - ESPN

this.

but.....it could be said that the best is yet to come and 2011 and the end of last year was only a glimpse of what is to come.

if he hasn't yet actually broken out....hold on to your hats.

I've said this before and I won't apologize for it. A lot of people exaggerate and aren't taken seriously, but I've thought this for a while. Cam is the best athlete in the NFL right now, he is a mixture of Bo Jackson and Brett Farve, but not only that he has the wherewithall, both mentally and physically, to know where is deficiencies lie and I've witnessed him correct them. There is no NFL player period at the QB position and some other positions that can move like him, take on defenders like him, show pin point accuracy like the best of them, and hve a rocket laser arm.  The man is 6'5"-6'6" 245-260 lbs and can jump over 6'7" lineman and defenders. It is beyond scary to think when he puts it all together what he can do. Just plain scary, and I think all of these beat writers know it.  Like i've said before, he put all of these qualities together the last half of the season. Now Imagine that from the beginning.

We have a guy who has the ability to put up 35-40 TD through the air and 5-10 TD's on the ground a season. That is mindboggling.

Go check out past posts by CRA....you will see what I mean.

To be fair, I've heard CRA say he wants Cam to be allowed to use all of his physical abilities. He knows Cam is a pocket passer, he doesn't want him to be stifled in the run game or the passing game.

agreed w/ all that, including the bit about CRA. it's as good and as respectable an opinion as any around here.

it's just a shame that people don't believe in respecting opinions...just attacking them if they're different. everything's got to turn into a pissing match.

Ditto on the comments, wow people hate this guy.  I don't understand the outside hate, except for the always obvious reason I won't mention.  It's not like he's ever been terrible to anyone.   I'm not sure how I feel about having a guy the league don't like, but in a way I hope even more he proves everyone wrong and runs all over their teams each Sunday.  I don't care if everyone outside of Panther fans hate him as long as he's doing his thing for the team.

Cam was forcing the ball to create opportunities in the first half of the season BUT let's not forget that Chud restricted Cam from audibling.

For sure, another element i'm excited about with his game. I remember watching that Dilfer video with him talking about Cam. He is a film junky, another added bonus.  Cam can be that guy that everyone was talking about Mike Vick could be. Both a prolific passer and runner. Except Cam is like 40lbs heavier and 5 inches taller. He is an anomoly.

I actually get the hate against Cam. If he wasn't on the Panthers, I would despise him but respect him.

The sad matter is some people in this world loves to see a star fail. They get some kind of kick from it. Remember that people hated Jordan, Ali, Kobe and also Tom Brady. I believe it comes from a professional dislike. I doubt (well hope) that some of these articles I read are personal feelings about our QB. Another thing to remember is, winning cures everything. Let's see we open the season with some dominating performances, watch all the love we will get. That is just the nature of the game. When you down, everyone takes a jab at you. When you are on cloud 9, everyone praises you. Funny how that works...

Been thinking that for awhile. If stars alone and everything falls into place cam has the talent to crush his rookie season and have it be all time. Good. I agree that I think we've only seen the tip of the iceberg. That isn't homerism at all either. We all know kid is scary good

Those comments on the site were hilarious. It was also hilarious Panthers fans were trying to defend Cam. Just let it go, people are really fuging dumb.

Every article on ESPN is littered with hateful comments, that's the internet. I just laugh at it and close the window.

I don’t think Carolina’s coaching staff really knew how to maximize his ability in his first two seasons.

For reasons that never have been explained and I sure as heck can’t figure out, the Carolina coaching staff didn’t take advantage fully of what Newton brings or what else was on the roster at the start of last season.

Breakout?  Cam was ready last year, unfortunately the coaching staff wasn't.

This Season?  Who knows?  Cams rookie season (2011) was phenomenal and the coaches still figured out a way to screw up a really good offense prior to the start of the 2012 season.

Cam needa to be set free. Period. They need to let him do his thing. Give him the plays and allow him to make audibles if he sees it's necessary. I'm sick and tired of hearing about how he is ignorant and doesn't know a playbook. Set him free. Cam will have a breakout year --- I could care less what these so called experts think. Who cares what anyone's opinion is. Honestly, I sincerely hope people and for that matter teams continue to doubt us. Anyone that doesn't think this team has the talent to make the playoffs is sandbagging.

Obviously I believe there should be some designed Cam run plays along with the read option, but the comments are true - no logical reason for Cam to lead our team in rushing. Let RG3 lead the Skins in rushing and recieve the media appraisal for it. We don't need that.

I truly believe the Panthers are capable of winning this division. That's just one mans opinion and I understand it doest not warrant much attention. That can go for anyone though.

Regardless of how they start and play throughout the season, I will support them and Rivera through the entire season. No need for negativity. We have the pieces in place and this will only be the beginning.

Show me a clip of Cam calling an audible at the line prior to the Monday Night game against the Eagles.

Everybody knows Chud prohibited Cam from audibling? Where have you been?

You still haven't posted a link. That's just something yall thought up. Maybe it was only his 2nd year and he couldn't read defenses right then and there to audible. Or maybe there weren't any audible plays period

    • I had started typing my post hours ago and didn’t finish it and just came back to finish it, posted it, then saw yours and saw we were pretty much saying the same thing - even the games that stick out to us most.  I don’t think a lot of people remember that SF playoff game, but I felt like I had just got mugged in broad daylight.  I remember them calling Mitchell for unnecessary roughness, and then I remember watching Boldin take a super late cheap shot, dead in front of the ref and then showing him watching the whole thing in replay…  the refs let them have a fuging field day and didn’t do jack poo, but if we so much as breathed the wrong way it was fuging 15 yards.  Each team playing under two completely different sets of rules.  poo hurt.  I was enraged.  I’ve never went back to watch either that game or SB50 and never will.  fuging robbery.
    • I’ve said it a million times since, but it’s impossible to keep them from affecting the game.  In SB50, they literally took the game from us, and they did it early.  Cotchery’s no-catch?  The miraculous amount of times we converted for a first down only to have it suddenly called back make it a 3rd down and 15+ against the best defense in the league that specialized in rushing the passer and man coverage on the back end?  And you do that enough times, you kill the morale and confidence of the team you’re doing it against.  It’s telling the one team “you can do whatever with impunity” and the other “you can’t do whatever they’re allowed to do.”  It changes the aggression level.  It essentially neuters one team and allows the other to do whatever the fug they want.  Imagine you call the police for help and they get there and tell you to sit still while the other party beats the poo out of you and you can’t defend yourself.  That’s what the officials do.  There is no way to avoid them affecting the game.  And more often than not, it’s the most subjective calls they use to do so.  Even in SB50…  you saw the Broncos commit more egregious penalties than anything we did, and barely any of it was called.  Their OL was holding all fuging game and the refs did nothing.  We already had our work cut out for us against two future HOF edge rushers and the refs played to their advantage with that.  From what I remember, both Oher and Remmers were called for holding at various times and their hands were in the INSIDE of the defender.  It was garbage, but all by design. Also, if there is any video of it anywhere, go look at what the refs did against us back in 2013 against SF.  The fix was in there too.  They stepped in early and often and ensured we knew we were not allowed to play with the same aggression or intensity SF was.  It was disgusting as well. at this point, I hope Vince McMahon, errr, I mean Goodell just finally scripts us to win it, because this poo is not won via competition or off merit.
    • You can go back to the New York Knicks somehow getting Patrick Ewing.  I saw a story where they place the New York Knick card in the freezer right before the drawing.  It was simple.  Show everyone the cards are undetectable to the human eye.  All they had to do was grab the coldest card. IMO ever since Goodell took over the NFL it has been fishy.  Patriots winning the SB after 9/11, New Orleans after Katrina and Peyton Manning's going away gift against us. The terrible calls during that game were blatantly one sided.  New England should have been stripped of their first 3 SB when they were caught spying on the other team in their SB wins.  I think the evidence against the Patriots was so damning Goodell felt it could ruin football and they brushed it under the table.   In the 2004 SB, How did we go from practically no yards in the first Quarter to setting a record in the 3rd Qtr.  Dan Henning changes the game plan.  IMO probably the greatest half time adjustment of all time.
