Quentin Jammer

Recommended Posts

I am not one to normally jump on every player that hits the market (or in this case soon to hit the market)

I would like opinions on QJ.

Rivera and Wilks know him well and he might be a good fit for us.  I know the article mentions Washington but who knows maybe the SD-Carolina pipeline is alive and well.

Thoughts?

I agree Carolina-Chuck.  Might be a decent fit at safety.  I mentioned this with the Charles Woodson thread but Rod Woodson prolonged his career by switching to safety.

What I do like is experience.  Someone who can mentor our young CBs even if he does play safety.  We just don't have that experience on the team since Chris Gamble left.

Would rather give our young guys a shot, Jammer was decent a few years ago but doesn't really give us much now.

i see people say this about players already on the team quite often and i've even said so myself in the past, but i'm more concerned with getting the best players on the field and winning than just seeing what some unknown commodities with promise have.

i'm more interested with winning than i am appeasing my curiousity re: young players.

if he's affordable and he can make us better....go get him. if the young guys can't beat him for a spot, move along.

At an affordable price he would be invaluable as a mentor.  As I stated earlier. We don't have that full time starter that can mentor our young DBs.

Our young DB will have to learn by Trial by Fire.

Rather a good DB with some experience to lead them.  Even if is from a nickel or dime position.

If anyone knows Jammer it is Rivera.

I would think he would be an upgrade over Norman or Florence but honestly I can only remember watching him three years ago at the latest. I would think Norman plays similar to a Jammer(sort of) and developing a young guy with potential and experiencing live bullets is a push in terms of the impact Jammer will bring (with his current skills) over Developing a young guy.

So in this case you err toward not spending.

Like most available guys on the market at need positions(CB!) there must be a huge red flag on his diminished skills or he is demanding too much money. If its the Jammer I remember a few years ago then yes..but im guessing he is not the same guy today.

In my opinion, we basically operated as a farm team for the last 3-5 years, possibly more...  So, the days of "we don't need to sign X let Y develop," are over.  You still draft talent that you expect to contribute immediately, but you don't count on every pick in rounds 3-7 to be starters like we did under Hurney.

Taking all that into consideration, we have plenty of homegrown talent already developed on this team.  It's now time to add the much needed complimentary pieces to complete the process and put us in a position to compete for a Super Bowl NOW.

    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
    • Because he won't be here next year, we aren't winning this year and we need to see if Renfrow or Horn can be that guy going forward. If Bryce isn't good enough to do poo without AT we need to find that out this year as well. I'm fine keeping him but his role needs to be slowly reduced throughout the year anyway so we know what we have for the future
