Former DT McClain wants to show the Panthers they made a "terrible mistake"

Before Dave Gettleman began collecting defensive tackles in Carolina, former general manager Marty Hurney used the Panthers' two picks in the third round of the 2011 draft on defensive tackles Terrell McClain and Sione Fua.

Fua is still in Charlotte. McClain is in Houston, trying to make the Texans' roster and show the Panthers they made a “terrible mistake” in cutting him last fall.

McClain told Dave Zangaro of CSNHouston.com this week he “absolutely” wants to prove the Panthers wrong.
“Every day I come out here and try to get better, trying to prove myself, that they did make a terrible mistake. Everything happens for a reason,” McClain said.

“I don’t really want to harp on it. Whatever happened, happened,” McClain added. “The fact that it did happen, I can’t really complain. I ended up here in this great organization. I’m thankful for what they did, letting me come here that I can prove myself and can be in the NFL.”

I can't hear McClain over me fapping to Star and Short.

In all seriousness, McClain is right. We made a terrible mistake by not releasing both him and Fua.

I thought if we were going to hang onto one of them, it should've been McClain over Fua.  In all honesty though, neither are NFL caliber players.  Hurney magic.

I get the feeling McClain wasn't putting much effort into practice, showing up late etc.... I don't even think his teammates had a reaction when we released him, for instance, players were shocked when we cut Everette Brown or when we cut Keiser.

When players don't do chit other than show up late for practice and go half-ass, they tend to get released.

It's his "terrible mistake" for not doing chit here.

Now Fua may bust his ass in practice, but I still don't see why he's on an NFL roster. Maybe the groundskeepers at BOA think some special cells on the backside of his jersey help the grass grow.

Hope he prospers and does well in Houston; just wasn't a fit here.

I don't hold any real ill will toward him and wish him the best, but he wasn't a fit here because he wasn't an NFL quality DT.  We had a dire need at DT and we still cut him.  That says a lot.
