TV/Internet options...

All my neighbors are buying amplified antennas that are installed inside the attic. They get about 60 channels here in Atlanta....granted more than half are Latino. Also, they have smart TVs, so no need for a roku box, they can watch YouTube, Netflix or any other apps.

Question, is there a way to DVR network shows? For example, we watch 20/20, dateline, etc... Is it possible to record these shows? I like to skip commercials.

You have to get a Tivo or build your own with a PC.

I think the only Tivo that supports over the air though is their low end box and doesn't do "whole home" (record once watch on any TV in the house)

get a solid flat screen. blu ray acts as your smart tv.

roku for hulu/netflix etc

solid set of rabbit ears will deliver the truest form of HD because the signal isn't compressed the way digital cable or sat tv is.

we always go no cable during the summer since we like to be out and about alot or travel every couple of wkds. now i just may never go back to a box.

I get 2 channels in the Charlotte area without an outdoor antennae and reception is choppy.

With the outdoor antennae I posted I get around 10 channels in perfect HD

I am currently receiving 9 channels but have done research on this subject recently and should easily be able to pull in 15- 20 more - I just ordered one of these preamps, and if that doesnt do it, will be getting one of the above antennas I linked and doing a rooftop installation.  I currently use an old radio shack uhf/vhf antenna in my attic.

The best part about this is that once the hardware is bought and installed, its all Free and HD.

WOW! I live in Shelby and get 31 channels, with an indoor antenna... sometimes more! How are y'all only getting 9 or 10 channels?

Edit: I just did a scan and got 38 channels.

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure you can buy a digital tuner for your computer. Windows 8 for sure and maybe 7 come with DVR software. You can record straight to your hard drive. Haupage is the big company for PC digital tuners.

Netflix, antenna, and torrents.

I'm not really a big fan of Hulu Plus. They basically have the same thing as Netflix but play commercials every 5 minutes.

I'm not signing up for Hulu Plus until they get rid of the commercials.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just got Uverse hooked up yesterday...Love it. The technology on the DVR is amazing..blows timewarner out the water.

The biggest plus is the HD storage capacity. 133 hours, that's more than 2 seasons worth of Panthers games. With plenty of room for anything else too.

A lot more around Charlotte (especially near downtown) that blocks the reception.

Much easier to get a signal when the sky is clear.
