B-Report about 6 of our guys on the bubble. Battles we aren't necessarily talking about.

I realize that some of you respond to the Bleacher Report like dogs were conditioned to respond in Pavlov's experiments, but I like some of them. And, it's not like the media is awash in analysis or info about the Panthers, or any team this time of year----so much so that some of you complain about fluff pieces---so here it is.  It doesn't necessarily take rocket science to already know who is on the list, but we don't necessarily discuss rotational players a whole lot. The thing is that a few of these guys could go on to have very productive NFL careers (in theory).

Here is a quote or two from Charles Edwards, the featured columnist, on each of the six "bubbleheads" (you heard the term here first :)):

Clausen will have to work extra hard in camp, as he will be fighting undrafted rookie Colby Cameron for the final slot.  He has the edge with experience over Cameron, but he has never looked particularly sharp in actual game situations.  If he plans on playing out the final year of his rookie contract, Clausen will need to step up his game.

Pickles: Seriously, you love 'em (him) or hate 'em (him) for some inexplicable reason. Question: Do pickles really add, or take away from the flavor of the burger. Are they really necessary?

Smith could have a slight advantage considering his ability to play special teams.  However, don't count out Poole, who can carry the ball as well as anyone on the team.  Essentially, this will not be a typical position battle but one that will determine who gets to stick around with the Panthers awhile longer.

I don't think there is any way we're getting rid of Smith after last year, unless Poole just flat out is heads and shoulders above Smith during the preseason.

David Gettis has the potential to do some good things within the Carolina offense; however, his window is rapidly coming to a close.

The Panthers look to have the first four wide receiver slots locked up with Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell, Domenik Hixon and Ted Ginn, Jr.  That could leave only two positions left with Gettis competing with Kealoha Pilares, Joe Adams and the next guy on this list, Armanti Edwards.

Hell, all all those guys are on the bubble, and don't let one of our newly signed FAs get injured or outplayed during camp, or they may end up with soap on their face also.

Edwards has been named the most improved player during OTAs by head coach Ron Rivera, but will it be enough to save his career?

If Edwards is to remain with the Panthers, he will need to channel his success from OTAs and transfer it over to real game situations where it counts.  A lot of people may want him gone, but many more are hoping he succeeds.

I still haven't figured out AE. His situation (at least to me) is similar to Clausen's. Sometimes I think there is no way, but then when I listen to what has been said recently by Chico, I say "Maybe." Joe Adams might wanna step up his game like Armanti apparently has done this summer. I don't see us realistically keeping both the smallish receivers under any circumstance, but perhaps that's just me.

Despite the fact there are nine players listed at the defensive tackle position according to OurLads.com, Kearse's stiffest competition will come from Fua and Cole.  Of the three, he looks to be the odd man out.  However, that can change if Kearse has a great camp and preseason.

Some probably don't even care too much about this "battle", but injuries happen in a heartbeat, so we may want to pay attention to what's going on here. Cole has been lauded for his work during summer camp. His experience, as well as Fua's (to the angst of some of you), may make Kearse expendable.

So, there you have it. Take it for what it's worth. At least it's food for thought.

I don't know why so many people want Jimmy gone its not like he's ever going to play. We need him for Cam's touchdown celebration. Cam doesn't have the time to teach it to a new guy.

Well, I'd like him to have a great camp. Lord knows that it's time. If he is meh, then I guess haters will get their wish (and deservedly so).

Yeah, and who would model all the latest Panther store gear?

Regarding Clausen...it's like Smitty said...at least he's done his time/dues and knows his place.

He isn't a very good QB but seems like a fine locker room guy/teammate.

We have our #1/2 QBs and if we ever had to go to our #3 we are in the shitter anyway.

He could wind up being a very good QBs coach.

Is Hixon really guaranteed a roster spot?

At the end of the day, he's not. But by virtue of body of work and experience on ST, notwithstanding that G-man already knows him, I would say he is about as close as a lock as any WR on the team not named Smitty.

Why is your analysis of Pickles so cryptic

Who, me?  I am rooting for Clausen as stated above, but I do have mixed feelings about him.  It's for comedic value more than anything else (plus I think it is interesting that people put pickles on burgers).  One to three little pickles on a burger ain't really anything. Load that baby up if you want the full effect. Pulling those pickles out with your fingers, or pulling them out with your teeth and chomping them down in a bite or two kinda makes the pickles pointless (or perhaps necessary depending on your desire).
