Rewatching the Sopranos in its entirety

So for over the next couple months i'm busting out my box set to watch the Sopranos for the first time in about 4 or 5 years. I just finished watching the first 3 episodes earlier today and they were still as amazing as when i watched them years ago.  The acting, the writing, the direction were so superb for a tv show in its initial stages. The Sopranos had an impact on my life and with the passing of James Gandolfini i decided to rewatch the show from beginning to end.

 

I'll ask some questions for the fellow fans of the series. What were some of your favorite episodes? Who were some of your favorite characters? What were some of your favorite lines? What were some of your favorite songs for the ending of episodes?

 

What themes throughout the series really resonated with you? How much of an impact do you think the Sopranos had on American culture? And probably the most important question; what did you think about the ending? (especially if you watched it live)

I've gotta do this also. I haven't watched any episodes again since the series finale aired.

Not to derail but Steve Van Zandt who played Silvio has a show called Lillyhammer on Netflix, he pretty much plays the same character. Personally I really liked it, but it may not be for everyone. Worth checking out though.

The ending is one of the best scenes in all of television ever. Apparently he had been working on it for years. I was confused as anyone when the scene went black. My initial interpretation was that their lives went on kind of like the Cheers ending, but once it was explained to me I liked it even better.

 

My favorite episodes tended to be the big deaths. Big pussy on the boat, Adriana crawling through the dirt. Also loved the "Pine Barrens" episode which was directed by Buscemi as well as the whole series where Tony has been shot and is kind of going through a dream/death sequence.

 

Of course what really drove the series was the interaction between the family members and Tony's own psych issues. His character resonated as real.

Of course what really drove the series was the interaction between the family members and Tony's own psych issues. His character resonated as real.

 

I agree on all the episodes...where he holds Christopher's nose shut after the car crash....yeesh

my friend said it best: i could watch tony and carmela just stare at each other and eat food all day long. there was something very real about these characters and how the actors portrayed them. mom is from jersey so i related to how high-strung the women were in the show.

 

expand on the ending though if you want to. i've read and heard it all.

Adrianna's death scene really stayed with me for some reason. It was all done so well. The moment she realizes what's going on, Silvio's reaction, and how pathetic she looked crawling away. So great. Or in season one when Chrissy shoots the guy in the foot (paying homage to Goodfellas) and says "...it happens!"

Another was when Tony was talking to his mother as she was wheeled through the hospital on a stretcher and he tells her he knows she tried to get him whacked. The doctors and saying "she can't understand you!" But then her lips curl into a faint smile and Tony freaks out "look at her! She's got a fuging smile on her face!"

Bobby's death was memorable, too. When Tony speeds up to his home and walks in to tell Carmella, and he's got a body guard with him and automatic rifles. He knows he's next. So intense.

Or when Tony kills Ralph. Lol.

I could sit and relive these scenes all day.

      We agree here dawg. I'd love for Bryce to succeed as would all huddlers. I have not seen a single huddler hate Bryce for anything other than his play on the field / potential / skillset. He hasn't gotten any of the irrational hate having nothing to do with football that Cam got. And yeah I understood going into this season with Bryce again as there weren't a ton of options, but man we missed the fuging mark on upgrading at backup QB with someone who could actually push Bryce. Bryce had zero pressure on him with a 100% washed up Dalton being the only other NFL caliber QB in the system. That absolutely needs to change this offseason. Ideally with an actual starter upgrade but that seems extremely unlikely due to not having many FA options and a bad draft. But at the very least with someone like you mentioned, young/upside and/or day 3 pick in the draft.   Another note, we have a top paid and top performing OL, great young talent at WR incl. likely OROY, great RB group, average all around TE group, offensive coach with creativity in the system and good play designs (poor situational playcalling but still I put out current offensive coaching staff over Shula who held Cam back for instance). Not the absolute best situation for a QB to be in, but still a very good situation around him. And yet we have a bottom 8 offense (6th lowest points scored). Imagine taking a victory lap for a QB leading his team to the 6th lowest points scored in the league and the 22nd highest passer rating (despite being asked to do less than many other QBs; i.e. Bo Nix who isn't great either and has a slightly lower passer rating but Sean Payton actually lets him try to throw the ball deep and has him throw significantly more than Bryce). Crazy

      similar to Atlanta and the NHL.  Atlanta has lost two NHL teams (and lost a minor leaguer).  Now there's another coalition pulling together another proposal for Atlanta to get an NHL expansion. While I'd like hockey to be back in Atlanta 'cause hockey is fun, I am skeptical that it'll happen based on previous teams' experience here alternatively: similar to Atlanta hosting a Major Tennis Tournament in advance of the US Open every mid/late summer.  Aside from the fact that Atlanta is said to be the country's largest Tennis playing city (with both USTA and ALTA, along with a number of side leagues) - playing tennis outdoors in Atlanta summer is miserable *and* they had difficulty attracting players... ticket sales were not good. So the Atlanta Open closed after 14 years.  They just couldn't make it happen, even if for all intents it appears to be massive tennis interest in the surrounding area.

      So I saw where Luke was doing that show parallel to the game. Whatever it was, statcast something something, knew it would be a good watch. I don’t get ESPN any more but that would be one of the about few things I would watch outside of games.     He doesn’t fool around on the radio broadcast.
