Am I the only Panther fan that would sign Hakeem Nicks over Hardy?

Everyone on here and other Panther sites alike all want to us to pay big money and lock up Hardy for the long term. This whole situation is Jonathan Stewart 2.0. Back before we signed Stewart, everyone was itching for the news that we locked him up, when we did lock him up, all the Panther fans jumped up for joy and all problems solved and Hurney was looked upon like a god.

Fast forward to now and its a well known joke amongst Panther fans that we have all this money tied up in the RB position and the same Panther fans that rejoiced when we signed Stewie are the same Panther fans that called for Hurney's head and continue to bash all the money we have tied up in the RB position now.

BTW, just for the record. I was against extending Stewie then and I got ridiculed for it and I was in the minority. Well here we are now. Same exact situation. We have a ton of money tied up in one DE already (Charles Johnson) we have a promising up and coming Frank Alexander, we re signed our 6 sack DT in DWAN and oh BTW we drafted two DTs in the first two rounds of the draft. Meanwhile, we have one of the best young QBs in the league with only a 34 year old stud WR to show for it and HUGE question marks at WR beyond that.

Which brings me to Hakeem Nicks. Nicks is still young, a consistent, number 1 WR who is proven and would be an immense upgrade to our offense and WR corps. We are stacked at defense, quite possibly the best LB corps in the league, a stout and deep D line. What we dont have is another legit WR aside from Smitty that can be the future weapon for Cam for years to come.

Surely I cant be the only Panther fan that sees this as the same exact situation we where in last season before we signed Stewie. Havent we learned by now not to tie up all your money in a position you are already deep at when you have glaring needs elsewhere? Panther fans should know this more than anyone.

And let me just go on the record and state this has nothing to do with Hardy. No doubt he is one of the top 4-3 ends in the league and love his personality on the field. This has to do with our current situation as a team. Im not a Hardy hater by any stretch, a fantastic DE, I just think we have glaring need at WR.

I'm on the Kracken side of this deal. High quality WR's almost never make it out of contract, and no I don't believe that HN is worth breaking open the check book for. Remember we are already over the cap for next year w/o a Kracken contract..

As has been said by many in this thread. Why would you let Hardy go for someone who has been struggling with injuries? If Hardy had the same injury issues then maybe but that is not the case so I'd say no.

Ofcourse other factors at play here. Say if Hardy has a great year and Nicks underwhelms then ofcourse that changes my thinking. Or say Lafell breaks out and has a 800 plus yd season, that also would come into play.

Nicks has not played 16 games ever in a regular season. Last year, he played 13, in those games, he had more receptions than lafell but got as many yards as Lafell. By receiving yards, Nicks ranked 56th in the NFL. On the other hand, Hardy ranked 14th in the NFL by sacks alone.

 

Based on last year alone, why would you go let someone who is performing at his position, ie, Hardy go for someone who is doing the same as Lafell?

We'd have to be getting an all star WR still on the upswing of his career to justify letting go of an upswinging DE of Hardy's caliber.  DE is just such a more important position than WR.  Nicks is good, but he's not nearly good enough to justify letting go of Hardy.

      I think Morgan has had the right general idea. The problem has been in execution.    Bryce year 1, there were myriad issues from roster talent to coaching and scheme, but the offensive line was particularly glaring. So they went out and  fixed the o-line by signing Hunt and Lewis.  That fix actually seems to have been at least moderately successful.    Last year, pass rush was a major issue. So they invested along the defensive line and at edge. The problem is, they either expended too many resources over correcting—partially because in free agency, when you’re a shitty franchise, you have to overpay to get talent in the door—or they didn’t make the right picks. It’s probably too early to pass judgment on the free agent class or draft picks as it’s only been one game. So we’ve got a small sample size and rookie edges may take time to develop. But if game 1 is any indication, they didn’t solve the problem.

      This is getting out of hand again. I swear some of yall just look for reasons to call out the QB, in an extremely thinly vieled "OFFENSIVE CAP HIT" statement.  All of that is offensive line. It was an overreaction to how horrible the guards were in 2023, where guys were starting multiple games that will never take a snap in the NFL again. Speaking of 2023... where did the offensive cap rank then? Where are those WRs playing in the league now? How much are the WRs, TEs and RBs making compared to the rest of the NFL? We have two, 1st round WRs on the roster. And they are the only WRs on the roster picked before the 4th round. One shouldn't have been a first rounder, he's only in his second season, AND he was literally outplayed by an UDFA rookie WR last year - that is currently on IR. The other WR picked before the 4th round has only played one game as a pro.  QB play needs to improve. Absolutely no friggin doubt about that. But, come on. That dude has not been dealt a fair hand, no matter how many ways you try to spin it. Let's hope he figures out how to make chicken salad out of the chicken poo this team has served him his entire time here. Hoping that this org finds another Cam Newton is not really a realistic expectation.

      Put Young on any team and they would still have to run a limited scheme for him. Put any talent around him and they still have to carry him.  IDGAF if we trade him inside the NFCS next year. That is how little I fear ever playing him.
