My camp thoughts after today. Expect a conservative, run offense.

If this offense looks like Foxball....Gettlemen, Rivera and Shula should all be fired.

We have Cam. You don't play Foxball with that type weapon.

We have a spotty OL, an old RB , an injury plagued RB, a rookie RB, and a FB. Even if your QB sucks you would need a great D front to back to attempt to be a legit contender playing Foxball with that. Our best player this year in the secondary could easily be the Raider reject....bc he walked into such a weak cast.

Excellent post. This guy gets it. There is no way this team is built for grind it out football. This will be a quick strike offence and Cam's running ability will come in to effect during "busted" plays. No question that we have a stable of good running backs but none of them will get 30 carries a game.

If they are going back to more of a power running game we will dominate time of possession with the help from our defense and we will score lot of points. We got to many threats in the end zone for us not to score.

Cam, Tolbert, Stewart, William, & Barner for rushing

Olsen, Smitty, LaFell, Ginn & Willams

We don't have a road grading OL.

We have a 30 yr old and injury plaqued 1-2 punch now at RB.

That isn't the formula to play ground and pound. Not to mention a weak secondary in a passing league expected to keep points down.

And above all.... the best two offensive players are a QB and WR.

I dont know why people are surprised carolina is running a minimal offense.  They have new personel and a new OC.  Even though shula is running a similar system doesnt mean its exactly the same.  It will take time to learn and install.  Until all the players get up to speed and get the fundamentals down, I dont see them doing anything complicated yet.  Also you dont show all your cards in training camp and preseason.

the OP is reading a whole lot more into one day of practice than is there. good thing to do when you're hoping that we are going back to foxball low scoring offenses hoping that you only have to get on the board a couple times and then try to sit on the lead and hope that the team you're facing can't/won't want to score a lot.

you play foxball with a conservative offense hoping your defense will sit on a small lead early in the game and you're asking for mediocrity.

it doesn't matter how much anyone loves old school, non-shootout games. that's the league today. you have to be able to score early and often and you have to get into the endzone as often as possible.

if the coaching staff is trying to go old school, they need to be fired.

I finally went to camp today.  Some thoughts.  Cam's passes have a lot more touch and are a lot more accurate. I left a little early but aside from one pick 6, Cam completed all his passes. Check downs,  passes down the middle, a bomb to Ginn on the right sideline. He made em all.

Day and night difference this year from last year at camp as far as our offense. Last year, Cam ran the ball A TON at camp. I didnt see a single zone read formation play today nor not once did Cam run.  What I saw today was a lot of power i formation, short 7-10 yd passes down the middle and check downs to the RBs. This offense will look quite a bit like Fox ball. Expect a lot of ground and pound this season. BTW, this is a very good thing.  There is nothing more I love than when teams absloutely dominate time of possession.  Some people love sacks, some love safeties, some love forced fumbles.. Me?  I love seeing the opposing QB on the bench, looking half asleep from boredom for nearly an entire quarter. WOO! Im getting chills just thinking about it. Show me a team that dominates time of possession and I will show you a playoff team everytime.

AJ Klien impressed me. Shame he hasnt got that much attention but he looked explosive and powerful in LB drills today.  A lot of people are in straight up panic mode about our O line. But we all forget we might just have one of the best if not THE best front 7 in the league.  I will reserve my judgement on the o line until I see them play average-below average Ds.

Cam is A LOT more vocal and relaxed. He was very vocal today and showing signs of a true leader. Ginn in my book is a lock for number 3 WR. Gettis is as good as gone.  Overall, solid practice.

this is something I forsaw

btw, we don't even have an oline for a proper coryell offense. that right side of the line is a liability in the passing game. it can't buy time for long balls. we don't need to be scheming as if we have an OL that can allow cam to hang on to the ball for 5 seconds while he waits for something to open up.

we have to pass at least as much as we run and we have to use short/intermediate passes more than the long ball. we also need to be getting rid of the ball quick and getting downfield quickly and into the endzone as much as possible.

Why would the OP think the offense will be conservative, after seeing one early practice; with Gettleman as GM (think NY Giants), and the fact that the team has been practicing a no huddle, up tempo offense, which they talked about implementing? Shrugs.

Now, If "conservative" means more traditional sets, as opposed to read option; yes. However, I don't think it means, less passing, or big plays on offense. That's what Got Rivera in trouble [conservative], and losing games and leads in the first place.

Post, like this; tell you more what the OP wants, than what he/she actually saw or knows during that one practice.
