This thread won't about Cooper.. This thread us about taking a look at yourself... Some of you should read your own comments and see how unreasonable you sound. Didn't Jesus say "judge not, lest you be judged" ... If it was a black player saying "ill fug up every cracker in. There " who would be saying anything? Yeah that word doesn't have the same history but isn't it the intentions behind the comment that. Counts? I don't condone what was said but I do think its time that we as a people learn how to forgive and forget. Especially when someone obviously wants and need your forgiveness. We all need to hold ourselves to a higher standard

great take.

up next we've got terry from hickory on line 2 who wants to talk about school vouchers.  welcome to the show terry.

OK I do have a serious question for black Huddlers. I've been reading the responses to the various Cooper stories and it seems that if you say the N word and it ends with an A then it's a term of endearment and when you say it and it ends with an R then it's hate. So if a white guy says the N word and it ends with an A then can he say that as a term of endearment to a black friend?

Also Paula Dean got her career ruined b/c she admitted to saying the word 30 yrs ago. What if I am singing some of my favorite rap songs and I repeat the lyric that happens to have the N word in it? Does that mean I'm racist?

I guess I'm just confused as to the unwritten rules of the N word...not trying to stir trouble, was just curious...

Question 1: No. Atleast not around me. Some allow that crap, though.

Question 2: With hip hop being so popular now, and you slip in say it while reciting a rap lyric, then I wouldn't consider you racist. I'd stop the song and tell you to chill out, and probably refrain from playing too much hip hop around you. One of the reasons I hate hip hop has gotten so big.

Although some people may question my blackness, I will tell you frankly to never say it!

I played sports all through my younger & high school years, I never heard the N-word, until I went to college in the south. My football coach called me a ******, and I was so in shock; I ended up quitting the football team 3 days later.

As someone who works with young people (photographer) I tell athletes all the time, just remember if you use it, when a big program donor comes by and says, we sure got a lot of fine (niggerz) on our team. Don't get upset! Because that big program donor is not as easily replaceable as you are.

I ain't black but you dont say it at all. No matter if it ends with an "a" or "er".

I fully understand the terrible history behind that deplorable word and have never and will never say it no matter what. What I don't really understand though is why its usage is promoted so much by so many members in the black community. It seems to have become a term of endearment among one another. I think that's the only racial slur that I've heard that the victims/targets actually freely use in reference to one another. Of course I'm not black (I'm not white either), so I'm obviously ignorant on the subject! I'm guessing it's possible it stems from a sense of camaraderie that the slaves developed all those years ago? Or is it since that's what they were identified as by the white man back then and so that's what they called each other (since they essentially were stripped of all sense of identity)? And it kinda just passed on from generation to generation...I'm not really sure but I'm interested in any feedback.

OK, I am going to say it.  The guy got drunk and said he would fight some..... explicate delete .....

and this is the top story in the NFL right now!!!!! WTH

I don't condone his actions at all, but come on..... It isn't like he killed someone

No, but the dumbfug had the stupidity to hurl out the N-word even though he plays with and against a league with more than a few blacks. Talking about an error in judgment...

As for me, I don't give him a pass just because he was drunk. This is not a one-night-stand situation, nor is it an ugly-girl-looks-good-after-getting-toasted situation. This is not a situation of exploitation due to inebriation. This is a situation where something that is apparently deep down inside comes out in a fit of anger. I have often said over the years that though alcohol may free your inhibitions, it also magnifies the feelings that one already has.

Cooper may be truly sorry for his foolishness, but he has to realize that it's going to take time, and a concerted effort to bring him back into people's good graces.  He is going to have to earn the trust of colleagues and fans all over again. And, some may forever look at him with a raised eye regardless.

Basically, I don't feel he fits the culture of our locker room, and the reclamation of his character and career will be best served elsewhere (hopefully in Philly, where it all began).

I think we tried this once before.

Didn't Mr Collins make a drunken racially insensitive remark one night with an N bomb.
