Brandon Williams Defying The Odds

Recommended Posts

I doubt all three make it. If it comes down to Hartsock or Williams, go with the younger guy with more upside.

A long term coach would probably do that. Rivera is a win now or be fired type of coach. He might take a slightly better player now over one with tons more potential. I hope not, but that could be his mentality.

Okay so the article mentions the stenosis as the reason he quit football before. But what's the deal with that? Is it still a concern? Does it put him at greater risk of injury? Is it a degenerative condition that could threaten the length of his would-be career? Or is he 100% healthy and okay to play?

I'm pulling as hard for this guy as anyone but what's the outlook on that?

Exactly what I was thinking. A condition that prevents him from playing college ball, but won't affect him in the NFL?

What scares, or impresses, me most about this kid? He hasn't played football in TWO effing years. I mean, what is he going to look like when everything starts to click? Man his ceiling is way up there. As the season progresses, he is only going to get better and better. And that really gets my giddy going.

Cole was out two years. Brandon was out two years. Both these guys could actually make the team. Our depth is getting to the point where it can actually be helpful. We are getting to the point where if a starter goes down, we actually have a quality replacement. Solid depth is huge. Well, except for that pesky Oline situation.

I wouldn't mind gettle double dipping again with two hog mollies on the offensive line next draft... We could use it.

We usually roll with three tight ends and one fullback.

But by technicality they rolled 4 last year(Olsen, Barney, Hartsock, Brockel).

They might just replace Barney with Williams and do it again.

Yeah we carried 4 in 2011 too. We definitely got spoiled after Shockey though. Essentially we let Barnidge go to keep an older (6 years) and slower version of him with the same number of career TD's (1). I want more 2 TE sets.

I like Hartsock as a guy, but for a blocking tight end... he isn't even really that great at blocking.

I would go with Olsen, Williams, Brockel, and then Tolbert as the full back but have Brockel backing him up.

Agreed. Pending how well Williams does in preseason of course.

I think right now most would agree with you. Hellz, right now even I might go with that. But we have a long way to go before we get to that point. By seasons end we may have a bigger need at other positions. Although that doesn't seem likely.

IF, Kugzilla pans out, and Bell takes another step up, we may not need to double dip. We could then go BPA, which is really the best alternative to begin with.

Aw hellz, I don't know. The Homer in me wants to believe we will be set with Kugzilla and Bell. But after 20+ years of marriage, I am used to things not going how I want them.

it wasn't the stenosis that prevented him from playing. it was the stenosis made worse by the bulging disk and bruised spine. the disc is no longer bulging and the spine is no longer bruised. that cleared him.

doctors gave him orders on how to take care of himself. if he does that, he should be fine.

TY for clearing that up.

We have become the team of accepting what others deem as medical misfits.  In reality we realize when players have been mislabeled.
