Cam and his accuracy issues.

It is too late in the night to get into all the specific stats and analysis but in a word... no.

Does he miss some throws? Yes. But if every throw was perfect he would be perfect and he is not perfect nor is any QB perfect..... perfect (just wanted to use that word one more time).

I think people think that because when he does miss, he has a tendency to miss spectacularly.

Last year he was second in comp% of passes that traveled over 20 yards in the air and threw way more if those passes than anyone in the NFL.

Part of a vertical passing game is throwing lower % passes. So 57% or so comp% is fine in this offense.

I hate those in game specific skip bayless Tibow stats. Like the best QBR in last 5 minute Skip keep regurgitating. You only hear those stats for players who can't complete 60% of their passes. 50ish percentage passers are normally backups in the NFL. If not their job is normally on the line. Cam must do better. Even if it means becoming a game manager.

I'll admit I'm concerned about his touch on shorter passes...he is so strong we have to consider the hands of every receiver we want to add.

and yes our oline is a big concern, but as far as last weeks game....when the d and st give you 4 touchdowns, you don't get to be on the field very much.  It was a freaky game, and Cam moved us well on that drive that ended with Gettis dropped the ball that Cam put between his numbers that would have given us a first down.  Instead we settled for a fg.

The offense will look better once we open the playbook and let Cam be Cam.

That is not how this offense works. If you look at the teams that consistently throw vertical like that none of their QBs had a comp% over 60% (I think. When I get to a computer I will double check that).

There is more to accuracy than comp%. That is why a guy who completed 70% of his passes still got benched last year and eventually sent to KC.

And the point of the stat also is because other QBs generally complete less than 40% of their passes that are 20 yards or more. Cam was at 44% and threw more of those passes than others.

So he is throwing a lower % pass more often than other QBs common sense tells you he will have a lower comp% than guys dinking and dunking. That doesn't mean he is less accurate as a passer.

But those vertical passes are what set up everything else we do on offense.

Cam's accuracy is inconsistent, there really is no legitimate doubt to that.  But while a few people here seem to think saying that is an insult to how good Cam is...it's not.  The real question is why is he inconsistent?

First of all, Cam will never be that deadly assassin type of QB that can dissect a defense, nor is our offense designed for that.  And yes, he does have occasional slips in his technique.  But I think there are really two big reasons that lead to his inconsistency.  First is that I think he tries to do too much.  I have noticed that many of his mistakes and problems occur when things aren't going well and he tries to carry the team on his shoulders.  The other, and probably bigger, reason is that he has not had consistent pass protection since he has been here.  As a result, I don't believe he fully trusts his line. So even when he does have a pocket, I think he's still bracing for the hit and not really comfortable in the pocket.  I truly think that giving him a solid line that can protect him will do wonders for improving his consistency.

IMO Cam needs to work on his short passes, IDK if its not being 100% in-tune with his WR or just not being accurate enough. Probably a mixture of both.

What I dont under stand is when a CB is playing with a big cushion that we dont throw a quick pass and let the WR make something happen.

Even Phil Jackson have said he wished Kobe was more like Lebron. Someone doesn't have to suck another person's dick to like someone.

    • "If only Bryce were <height>", he'd <insert stupid thing here>" was the bit and in direct response to multiple posters ridiculously blaming Bryce (and only Bryce) for the punt returns vs. New England. :3 I understand that folks desire balance, hence the "Bryce stans vs. Bryce haters" narrative but it's abundantly clear that the only people going into threads just to talk about Bryce are the haters. Meanwhile, daring to disagree that Bryce was completely at fault for something that happened on special teams gets the "stan" label. Shoot, I'm sure folks lump me in as a Bryce stan (Brycen stan? Absolutely. Bryce stan? Nah) just because I have the audacity to look at what the rest of the team is and isn't doing. 😛
    • PJ Walker is the only QB in the Tepper era the Panthers managed to find wins with.  Only QB w/ a winning record.    PJ had success in pro ball before the Panthers.  He he had NFL tools.    He just is consistent and unreliable.  PJ Walker is what you call a bad/poor man's gunslinger.  He can provide highs and lows both virtually guaranteed.  He is NFL depth.  Bryce Young hasn't proven to improve a teams chances of winning better than the PJ Walker tier of QBing. PJ Walker can do things Bryce Young can't......and that a problem
    • There isn’t but the thing is the team/system/staff around the QB ultimately dictates how successful that QB can be. You have Baker getting released midseason here vs playing like a MVP on another team. Darnold on the Jets/Panthers vs Vikings/Seahawks. Geno Smith on the Jets vs the Seahawks vs the Raiders. Mac Jones is looking as good as Purdy on the 49ers. You have to build a roster, culture, and system for these guys.  Obviously the QB has to be the leader and help elevate the team, but we are seeing what moving a “bad” QB to a stable franchise looks like. Daniel Jones might be doing the same but it’s too early to tell.
