I really think at this point we have to, right?

OL: Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Williams, Bell, Chandler, Scott, Silatolu (out week 1 at least), Byers (hasn't practiced in at least a week), Kugbila (IR), anyone else? We barely have enough for 5 starters.

Yeah, you would think. It's just scary that our depth on the OL shouldn't even be in the league, and some of our starters should be backups. They have to do something with Bell and bring in another guy with starting experience that didn't absolutely suck (the guy from the Ravens - Harewood?, Barry Richardson, etc.).

yes and no, hes been doing well in TC. giving the defense fits.

if it makes you feel better, Green Bay selected David Bakhtiari right after Kugbila and he is now the starting LT.

If it makes you feel.better Byron Bell wasn't even drafted and he is our starting RT.

Just bc he is a starter somewhere doesnt mean he is A- good B- better than a player we haven't really seen yet.

Sucks but hopefully he gets healthy. Other players seem to think he wants to play and is a hard worker, but can't get this hammy thing under wraps.

I am going to wait to judge this pick for a little while longer before bailing on him.

True, but he was thrust into role due to injury, and it remains to be seen how he will face with the likes of Peppers, Allen, etc. coming after him when the real bullets start.

 

The 4th round is IMO too high to draft someone who can't at least contribute to your team in some way right away, so obviously the pick is disappointing in that aspect.

 

But there are 2 things to consider: 

 

1) If the coaching staff decided Kugbila wasn't going to be ready to play this year, then IR was the best thing for the team to not have to waste a spot holding him.  Kugbila hasn't entered Otah status just yet.  If he doesn't play next year, then it was a complete bust of a pick.  It took Silatolu over half a year to produce anything decent last year coming from DII, and he was a 2nd Rounder

 

2) It looks like Gettleman hit HR's with his picks of Star, Short, and Barner.  This draft will obviously fall short of his stated goal of wanting 3 starters, but Star & Short are both ready to start, and I think Barner is going to be a major contributor, especially with Stewart starting out the year on the PUP list

      Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.

      I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.

      Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
