Carolina Panthers sign Quintin Mikell

Rivera just said Mitchell has an injury that could keep him out for some time. To me that sounds a little too convenient, that they've been talking to Mikell for 2 months now and suddenly Mitchell gets hurt a week before camp (mind you on the exact same day we signed Dwan Edwards last year) and Mikell somehow makes it to practice that very day.

Why they need to invent stories instead of "We thought Mikell could add some strength to our secondary" is beyond me.

It's not that ouch when you compare overall defense of Rams vs. Panthers. Particularly the front 7. If they play even close to how they did in the Ravens game, Quintin will be free to create absolute havok.

Rams have a solid front 7, could be one of the better ones in the NFL this year.  Quinn, Long and Brockers are all really good Dlinemen with room to improve and Laurinaitus is a darn good MLB.  Rams are pretty committed to youth right now.  They are quietly building a contender waiting for the 49ers or Seahawks to open a door for them.

Fisher is a damn fine coach and Les Snead is a super aggressive GM who seems to make the necessary splash moves that seem to land them youthful talent.  Gotta also remember they still have extra picks flowing in the next few years from the RG3 trade.

Of course the Ram's front 7 doesn't seem like it can compete with ours, I don't think anyone besides the 49ers can.

I would assume that he will split time with Mitchell. He knows the system we run since he spent ten years in Philly under SM, so really a small learning curve, hope he is in shape.Good problem to have because if Mitchell keeps f'g up with his stupid penalties costing us games, then sit ass on pines and next man up. In Gettleman we trust.

Mikell was great in pass coverage his years in Philly (which wasn't that long ago).  I seriously doubt he just suddenly forgot how to cover when he went to the Rams.

Just look at his stats and how high his pass rush, run stop grades out.  Sounds like a scheme the Rams ran with him more than anything.

Wow...just read the Mitchell injury story. Gotta give it to them, they find ways to work the system and add pieces/move bodies around to make it all work. I am sure DG knows how to tweak the system to make it all fit and I'm sure other teams do it also. I wonder if they hit Naky on head with a three pound hammer to seal the deal on him.Never heard of him having concussion history.

    • PFF feeds the beast.  So it’s largely popular for that IMO and is embraced by the NFL machine because it helps feed the beast.  Thats why you see the cute stats pop on the Monday Night football screen lol.  Hot takes? Fantasy football? Yeah, it’s good for the NFL machine for lots of reason.  I do think the league embraces them.  Not because they are actually good at doing what they claim. actual analytics folks are critical of PFF.  Because it’s not analytics.  It’s subjective goobly goo ratings by dudes that aren’t really qualified nor even have the info to do real grading.  you got legit NFL players who say they have literally put PFF grades by the coaches grades and they are worlds apart.  Players have laughed at them pretending they can grade certain plays without the underlining info.  NFL coaches have called out there bologna at pressers.   could it be a quick tool to find out some info that has nothing to with their subjective grades? Sure.  There is a lot of data on 32 teams for cheap. But I do not buy the narrative 32 NFL teams think their grades are worth a poo or remotely accurate or meaningful.
    • Bills D looks like ass
    • I think that win vs Dallas gave them a big boost of confidence.  Thats a team that blew us out the past 2 seasons. Even when Bryce was playing okay late last season they still beat us pretty bad.  Lets see if we slaughter the Jets or go back to playing sloppy uninspired football and go from there.
