On the Cheap...another wasted season brought to you courtesy of Richardson

Let's go back in time.... to the year 2010. I know it seems a long time ago but that is where our story begins. John Fox is not extended and the writing is on the wall. It seemed everyone knew Fox was done in Carolina but we kept him anyway. Jerry Richardson made the comments about obligation to stockholders and firing a coach and hiring another would affect his bottom line.

Fast forward to 2013.

Same scenario - An owner who has displayed a reluctance to make changes and fix mistakes that might cost him. We have to pay for his mistakes. Jerry is made of teflon. Great person. Smart Businessman. Worthless Owner.

So it's another wasted season because our owner doesn't want to have to pay a fired coach a salary. It's all about the bottom line...and that bottom line is not winning. That takes a back seat to profitability. We had to pay for a stadium renovation because this owner is so cheap he won't even fire lame duck/inept coaches.

We missed out on a lot of great coaches over the last several years by keeping guys around who shouldn't have been kept. First two names (of guys we missed) that come to mind would be Harbaugh (who we didn't even entertain....thanks Jerry!), and the coach who was tailor made for our Quarterback Chip Kelly....

Jerry Richardson is the boneless hot wing of owners?

3 wasted seasons.

3 wasted seasons of Cams career. Smitty might as well retire this week.

Richardson will continue to hire defensive minded coaches and never really develope Cam. Really is a shame.

It's been over 15 years, but, can I go back to being a 49ers fan?

They got their ass kicked last night so you're screwed.

Guest Spider Monkey

Harbaugh wouldn't have come here in a million years.

Kelly will be as successful as Spurrier was in the NFL.

Richardson isn't the problem.

On a day like today I don't want to make sweeping generalizations.  But this franchise has become a bottom feeder in the NFL.

That is the sad reality right now, as much as I don't want it to be.  And Richardson's decisions over the past 5 years are as responsible for this as anything else.

JR bashing is old and misguided.

Are you kidding dude? JR's cheapness in 2010 directly correlates with where this franchise is at right now. His refusal to accept better than mediocrity last year and hire a GM who didn't demand a new HC is why we're in this place now. Another wasted season and it starts at the very top and trickles down man....

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
