On the Cheap...another wasted season brought to you courtesy of Richardson

Let's go back in time.... to the year 2010. I know it seems a long time ago but that is where our story begins. John Fox is not extended and the writing is on the wall. It seemed everyone knew Fox was done in Carolina but we kept him anyway. Jerry Richardson made the comments about obligation to stockholders and firing a coach and hiring another would affect his bottom line.

Fast forward to 2013.

Same scenario - An owner who has displayed a reluctance to make changes and fix mistakes that might cost him. We have to pay for his mistakes. Jerry is made of teflon. Great person. Smart Businessman. Worthless Owner.

So it's another wasted season because our owner doesn't want to have to pay a fired coach a salary. It's all about the bottom line...and that bottom line is not winning. That takes a back seat to profitability. We had to pay for a stadium renovation because this owner is so cheap he won't even fire lame duck/inept coaches.

As a business student, I can't help but cringe at this thought process.

Sure, a top priority of business is increasing and maintaining stockholder welfare and market price of shares. Your shareholders are the people you don't want to piss off.

However, THE TOP priority of business is not the shareholders, not the accounting, not the marketing....but the PRODUCT and its CUSTOMERS.

We customers have been let down by the product for the last 5 years now. Yet people keep buying because the preview of the next year's product appears to have been improved.. Kind of like the Madden video game series.

Jerry Richardson knows more about business than the entire UTK undergraduate business student body combined. However, he is cheating his most important source of revenue because he knows he can get away with it.

Lets see if JR lets DG pick his own guys. This will tell the tale if we end up with another defense coordinater on the cheap or a losing retread then we will know where it came from. Lets see what happens and see if DG is just another yes man.

Our losing ways have nothing to do with how cheap JR is, we are at cap/ over cap every year. The problem is the cap has been mismanaged for far too long and the coaching/GM hires have been terrible but the jury is still out on Gettleman.

JR being cheap is the last reason we are terrible, im sure if he could buy his way into the playoffs he would

Sean McDermitt didnt come on the cheap we actually paid up for him to come here, there were other teams he was interested in

You can't say it has nothing to do with JR. JR kept Hurney and Fox here for years past the end of the 08 season even though it had been apparent that they should be replaced. He spent the 2010 and 2011 off season mainly focusing on the lockout and neglecting the team. And of course, his most recent landmark of stinginess, keeping Ron on board at the end of 2012 after it had become obvious that he can't manage a fuging game to save his life.

He is a piss poor football owner

I think they are talking about paying for a top notch head coach, which doesn't show on the cap.

We went the budget route with RIvera.

I dont think he went out in search of a HC with a low budget in mind i think his thought process was he wanted someone with an experienced defensive mind to come in because JR has always been about the D.

Who was available when we were hiring that was a high value coach?

    • okay I found this and it sounds like my hopes for the first surgery being not such a great job seems like it could be actual reality.  I only hoped because that would give a better chance for recovery and ia a possible scenario so I just thought it could be possible. Had no real evidence of it. But I’ll be damned.    This is a detailed report of Brooks’ surgery and the condition of his knee after the failed repair.     https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2055743129408704806?s= Sparked by some very good questions by @CoachspeakIndex, here’s some info on Jonathon Brooks: 1. Speculation that the first graft/ACLR by Dr. Cooper didn’t “take” or at least was too lax, leading to failure and re-tear. Brooks dealt with issues cutting, progressing in his rehab into the early stages of 2024 and then re-tore it late 2024, requiring a second ACLR in January 2025 (essentially revision). Notably, CAR prolonged Brooks’ rehab process through Sept-Oct due to issues progressing into the next stages of rehab. 2. Second surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has extensive experience with revisions. He did a double bundle technique, harvesting graft from Brooks’ left patellar tendon and a strip of his right IT Band (his right patellar tendon had been utilized for the prior graft in 2023. The double bundle technique significantly increases rotational stability of the knee, leading to a stronger and more secure graft/reconstruction. Also to note, Brooks’ surgery wasn’t significantly delayed, meaning that the tunnels from his prior ACLR were in good shape and they didn’t need to perform bone grafts to fill in (would have delayed 2nd surgery by 5-6 months). Essentially, reading the tea leaves tells me that everything else except for the graft itself was still in good quality within his knee. Good sign for future.  3. Typically, you see a performance increase anywhere from 16-20 months post-revision. Brooks will be ~21 months out from his second surgery by the time Week 1 hits. His knee should be more stable and stronger this time around, with adequate time for healing and return to all movement patterns. I’m not viewing this situation as a typical “Player __ had TWO ACL tears, he’s cooked” situation. Rather, I’m viewing it as the first procedure failed, but the second procedure is significantly stronger and should allow him to return to form this time around. I don’t know why it posted as a link but there it is.
    • Jackie, any more reps tomorrow, or is that it for this session?  thanks for the work
    • How can you say they aren’t trying to win now with all the moves made in free agency? Or is trading first round picks the only way to be win now? I’d be fine never trading another first round pick again, win now be damned.
