synopsis;

using Pro Football Focus grading system, http://www.profootballfocus.com/about/grading/  here are top 5;

Kansas City, + 21.4

Seattle, + 20.7

Detroit, + 19.4

Tennessee, + 15.9

Baltimore, +15.1

According to the article,   "This (grading system) will go beyond looking at which teams have the most sacks, but assessing (relative to how much they rush the passer) which teams are generating the highest quality of pressure, accounting for such things as time to pressure, whether it comes unblocked or as the failings of the offense and if it comes in garbage time.

Trying to see where the Panthers are ranked but can't locate the remaining list.  Should Panthers be here?

We have pressured well in 2 games.....

Some teams have played 4 games and had more chances to show what they are. With such a small sample I would think that Buffalo game hurts us.....which would knock us out of that that ranking

The Panthers have had one game in which they rushed the passer well. they need to repeat that a few more times.

They rushed the passer very well against Seattle. He just eluded it. That was probably a 6 sack game against anyone but 2-3 QBs.

There pressure numbers were good

I wouldn't say the pass rush against Seattle was "quality" considering Wilson put up a lot of yards against us.

In this system, we've had one great game and 2 mediocre games.

Past rush got to him and altered plays....

Problem is our secondary is a hot mess....he danced and eluded solid pressure

The pressure we generated against Seattle....results in loads of sacks against guys like Eli Manning.

Anyone who has watched the 3 games so far knows this is a good pass rushing team.  I still personally put a lot of stock in the "unscientific" eyeball test.

By the same token, I still think our secondary, while looking good against the Giants, lacks talent and will be exposed some throughout the year when the pass rush fails.

Yep, we haven't played enough yet for everyone to fully see all the strengths and weaknesses.

Wait until we find a vertical passing QB who gets some time. If the front 4 takes time off against Palmer it could be big trouble

    • Push em to the brink!!! Shut em down Freddie!
    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
    • Aho and Jarvis just gripping it too tight right now. Relax, play their 200 ft game and the shots will start to find the net. Freddie has been excellent and welcome back Mista Svechnikov. Burns.....well, thank goodness for Slavin.
