Is this D better than the 2003 Super Bowl defense?

is that last sentence a typo?

No.

The 05 defense forced more turnovers than the 03 defense did, which helped compensate for an 05 offense that struggled, and had no real weapons outside of Steve Smith.

During our Superbowl run, we had a pretty good offense to go with a very good defense.  Stephen Davis, Moose, Proehl, and Steve Smith gave us a very effective offense with some good weapons.  When we went to the NFC championship game in 05, it was mainly on the strength of our d.

ok that makes more sense.

I remember how explosive the 2005 team was but yes there were definitely some games that looked like our 2010 offense

Great defenses don't give up game winning drives over and over again, when the opposition has little to zero time outs and precious seconds left on the game clock. That goes for the 2011, 2012, and Panther defense this year so far.

On top of that, the Panthers have only played 5 games so far this year. It's too early to say so.

not to be a negative Nancy, but what offensive powerhouses have we faced?

All the teams we've played have put up big points vs other teams.

But you have to keep in mind that they also played the Panthers' defense, and so the numbers are skewed as a result.

the seahawks maybe. but they padded their stats against the jags and their D Forces a lot of turnovers. Still, they run much more than they pass and I wouldn't consider them an offensive powerhouse.
