Ted Ginn

Ted Ginn has been the most pleasant surprise this season. When we brought him in some people wondered why he never played offense for the 49ers. Some people said he was only a return man. Well he is playing some great receiver this year. It's not just the 13 catches for 243 yards. He's blocking like Steve and there hasn't been a single memorable or untimely drop. We thought he would run 9 routes all day but he's been great over the middle. Ted Ginn deserves some praise for the way he plays WR.

Now about the return game. It's hard to watch the TV and know what exactly is going on but we haven't seen signs of the big one. Maybe it's our scheme or blocking. Maybe it's the way our opponents punt the ball. He is averaging a little under 10 yards on punts and I hope they can work that out. Not really blaming anyone but It's notable.

Teddy blew that dude up on Brandon Laffell's TD run.  He looked like Steve Smith laying some wood.

Ginn has been great.  Bad hands?  What bad hands?  He has caught just about everything coming his way .

An he will break a punt return for big one soon.  He just hasn't had many good opportunities yet.

Ted has been solid. And it's just a matter of time before he busts an 70yd punt return & high steps into the end zone.

Glad he finally has a good QB to play with.

Yes he did and that is getting all the attention, but it wasn't even the best thing he did on that play. All the talk about how he is a deep threat and how it will open up our offense has come true. LaFell was open on that play 100% because Ginn drew the coverage away from him by running the deep post.

    • Okay then. To me that means Russell Wilson was Coryell. Because I see the proposition completely in the Russell Wilson punt/pass put it up for grabs mold. Count on the receiver to catch it or knock it down.    And the reason I thought that was the intent with Legette is the abysmal downfield game from 2023. As in, there was barely any.   I look at it as if… the result of a deep attempt isn’t as important as the opponent understanding they have to defend it. So I was all for some 50/50s. Coryell, Walsh whoever.  I do favor the Coryell approach personally but also very much value versatility, it doesn’t have to be strict. Just make the defense defend the whole field, however you do it. It has to include downfield throws.
    • Sold, or in the process of being sold. Could be either way. Consider this for a second... Last season, our defensive coordinator steered what many have called the worst defense in NFL history.  Canales would absolutely have been justified in firing him, and no one would have blamed him if he had.  But what did he do? He gave Evero another chance to come back and prove he could be better. Does that tell us something about Canales? I think it does. Now apply that to Bryce 😕
    • Canales has never been part of big YAC offenses in the NFL.  That’s not his tree.  Not in Seattle, Tampa or here.  Every O he has been associated with basically has been bottom half of the league in YAC.  That’s what Bryce needs to happen though  2 very different things….and very much gets into why the middle school QB doesn’t fit
