Ouch!  I don't know much about Wharton.  Is he a reliable back up?

The injury didn't just happen.  Wharton was our starter last week.  He is better than Amini.  Amini has some upside Wharton doesn't but  isn't a consistent player yet.

The move means Panthers like their OL depth and wanted a proven special teams player, which Williams is.

Gettlemen loves this OL!!!!!  No worries!

Meanwhile, I bet RR goes to bed every night cursing this dude out.

The good news, from a Panther perspective, is that he will likely draw Kendall Langford rather than Michael Brockers.  Brockers has really come on in the last couple of weeks and looked unstoppable last week against the Texans OL.

wharton was one of the better LGs in the league and had been a starter there and at LT.

the old GM released him because he'd rather overpay for RBs and LBs than keep a good RG around. wharton was due a bunch of money and wanted him to restructure/take a pay cut. wharton didnt want to so he was let go. he got picked up by the bengals but then got put on IR during his first preseason game with them.

he was part of the OL here while it was at it's best in the non-steroid era. he's been out a year and just getting back into the swing of things, but he did very well last week. he's quite familiar with the guys on either side of him so the chemistry is there.

basically we don't take a step backward with inserting wharton there. like others have said, not as much upside as silatolu, but more experience and better chemistry with the OL.

    • That was my point.  @LinvilleGorge was acting like there was some magic hire or recruit the administration or Belichick missed. Unreal how much coaches leading awful programs are making.  Cal, Va Tech, Houston, Maryland, Virginia and many others are paying their coaches $5M+ a year.
    • This team has a rich history of great linebackers.  Is a high standard to hold anybody to.  Take the fact, that the NFL has been prioritizing other positions over linebacker, adds to this also.  The fact that our drafts have been offensive heavy for awhile now, also adds to it.   As a fan of great defenses, I  am definitely not satisfied with the trend that has been happening.  While Morgan is a retired linebacker, it's not like he hasn't had other priorities in the 2 years he's been in control.  We also lost a good starter from last season, that we weren't expecting to lose.  Not making excuses, just observation.  At this point, it is what it is for this season, whether we like it or not.
    • Well I have never claimed anything he did was due to bad players on the other side.  On the flip side, people defend him on the regular with saying it isn’t his fault because his teammates are bad. The coaching, the other players, tell me I am lying.  Hmm.  Edit I am going to caveat that first thing. I for sure claimed you could not use college as a direct comparison to the NFL, because the NFL is another level entirely. So it does discount the opposition, in that context.  But once you have NFL results, no.
