My friend's theory on why we've passed on so many receivers

He said that Jerry Richardson can't stand the diva-like attitudes that many WRs coming out of school have today. He also said that this is a problem because to be really great, you have to possess a certain amount of prima-donna-like qualities. I told him that was an interesting theory. Perhaps it's as good a reason as any amidst the head scratching.

The fact Keyshawn Johnson was once on this team invalidates that theory.

Shockey kinda went against the grain when you think of the panthers, too.

I don't think they've intentionally neglected a #2 wr....it's just been poor drafting and bad acquisitions. Dwayne Jarrett basically had to drink himself off the team. LaFell is developing but I honestly don't think he will ever be a true #2.

I remember when we traded for Rod Gardner. Thanks for nothing, Rod.

We have drafted a number of receivers on this team.  We just haven't drafted them in the first round but usually look in the 3rd or later rounds.  I don't think JR cares about divas and lately has relented about character being the biggest issue.  Unless it was Newton who was supposed to be the face of the franchise, he hasn't really had too much input into the draft or free agency it would appear.  But once they are on the team he does seem to care quite a bit.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
