Cam haters, what you should have learned from the last 3 games

I use Football Outsiders for stats as well but honestly I still can't figure out the specifics of DVOA and the rest.  I see the explanation but it is still over my head frankly.

Again I don't think you can just look at defensive stats in isolation.  I think you have to look at the offense as well and things like how they play at home versus on the road, whether we play well there or not.  For example who thinks Arizona would beat us at our house this year given how well we are playing at home and how poor they play on the road.  For example I think we will play tough against New England but worry that Brady is money on Monday Night. I think we will struggle against San Fran and Miami on the road.

Look at our losses. 2 of the 3 have been on the road irregardless of the defense.  Even then we had chances to win except for poor execution at critical times.  Hopefully we have fixed much of that.

Well I hope you don't think that many of the whiners and bitchers here deserve much attention. People will always complain when we lose and many will complain when we lose that it is just an abberation and things will get worse. Look at folks who have said that Rivera will still choke when we play a close game or that Shula is still a bad coordinator although he seems to be doing a world of good for Cam.

I am glad we are winning and if we get to 9-7 I think that might get us into the playoffs. If we win the next 2 we could go 4-4 and still be in contention for the playoffs.

Yeah I really don't want to destroy and rebuild..

And that was kind of my main point about the difference between Cam and Rivera haters. Obvious Cam trolls seem to wildly criticize him, whereas people don't seem to be signing up just to bash any and everything Rivera.

Nope just a realist. We beat 3 bad teams and blew a game against buffalo another bad team. Beat up on 3 horrible teams and all of a sudden people start talking about playoffs.

Arizona would've been a statement game and they failed to execute.

Getting W's in the next two games shows us nothing. But L's would tell us everything.

However the defense playing the way they are with the mess we have at corner is a huge positive!

How could I forgot that category.  Some people lump realists in the bitcher, complainer category.  Others lump them into the cautiously optimistic category.  Depends on your perspective.

That is the thing.  I have wanted a Jim Johnson defense for a decade and while this one doesn't blitz as much or take as many chances, it is solid and should be for the foreseeable future. I fear that we will make wholesale changes and end up going backwards instead of forwards.  This team is hitting it's stride at the right time of the year instead of waiting until December.

Whoop there goes p55 creating his own definitions again

Honestly I think the easy schedule could save this coaching staff, and even if they do get canned at the end of the season by missing the playoffs gettleman's not rebuilding because we already have most of the pieces in place.

It's like that crappy fish game you play on ebaumsworld or whatever. You need to eat the smallest fish in the beginning which will help you grow to eat bigger and bigger fish until you're the biggest one and you can't even fit on the screen. (Boy I wish a coach makes that metaphor someday)

These awful opponents don't require Cam to press, so he's just going to get better and better as the season progresses, and we might end up playing in January for once.

Kaepernick runs a pretty basic offense. Bob had most of his liberties taken by Shanahan after the injury. Russel Wilson is a guy with more control over his offense than Cam has. Russel Wilson is a guy they talk about having the demeanor and work ethic of a great QB.

I've heard many people question Cam's work ethic. There are some people in the Panthers building that felt like Cam didn't put in the work during the 2012 off season. I'm not sitting here comparing Cam Newton to all of the bust QBs like some people do. I'm comparing him to the best because that is what he can be. I'll go back and watch some Giants this weekend but most of what I say comes from things I've seen or read. Sometimes it comes from Steve Smith who I would think knows what he's talking about.

Cam does put in work. Nobody is denying that. But does he put in NFL QB work or NFL Elite QB work?

Could you just block me? I can't change the way you feel and you misquote me. This is not healthy find a new person to stalk.

Misquote you say?

And there goes Raging Bull or whatever he calls himself now since he changed his name after other posters got tired of his GIFs and other crap.  You have no idea what Gettleman will do or won't do if we don't make the playoffs. And given we started off with Seattle your little fish metaphor makes little sense.

Stick to GIFs, they are juvenile but at least appeal to the under 21 crowd where you get most of your support.

Another Cam thread.

After each win, we have one set of threads saying he is God and bashing the doubters

After each loss, we have a set saying cut or trade him and bashing the huggers.

Guess we will just have to get used to this for the foreseeable future, expecially since we are 3-3.

Here's to hoping this, his third year, gets us somewhere in the definitive neighborhood on his potential to leading us to a Super Bowl.

The no turnover Sunday just passed, we a good sign and hope a good omen

I'm by no means a Cam hater, but it feel like every year Cam has a stretch of a great couple of game, and then lays an egg. He has looked great for 2 games lol....2 games.... and against awful teams. I hope he is making strides and his success is sustained but I'm not completely sold yet either.

Out of curiosity, how many years experience do our coach and QB need before we can start asking for a playoff appearance?

Dude, we were 2-14 the year before they got here. Certainly more than 2 years. We have improved both years since they arrived. Plus look at all the blown picks during that time. Thanks Marty.

    • The bottom line is we saw long stretches this season where T-Mac wasn't even targeted.  He had games where he went an entire half without seeing a pass thrown his way, and it lead to a bunch of games with 5 or less targets.  If he's healthy and we're not up a stupid amount and only running the ball, I can't see him having more than a game or two next year with 5 or less targets. We were also only 22nd this year in pass attempts, and that was with a rookie #1 and no legitimate 2nd option for half the season.  And even then, we were only 46 pass attempts above 31st place. If we go into next season with T-Mac improved in his 2nd season and a healthy Coker for 17 games, there is absolutely no reason for us to not throw it more.  That right away increases both of their target totals without sacrificing any targets from each other or other players, add in them taking targets from the TEs and RBs on top of that, and your argument just doesn't hold water anymore. You can't look at targets/yards in a vacuum and think next year Coker just takes some from T-Mac.  You have to look at the team as a whole and our situations this year and then project what will happen next year. If he's healthy for 17 games, I'd bet my life savings that T-Mac sees increases across the board, targets/catches/yards/TDs.   Just as Coker will also see career highs in all categories, it's not one vs the other, it's shifting offensive strategy given our personnel, which next year will be much better for our passing game (QB issues aside).
    • C'mon now.... First, you can't switch up your argument once someone points out a major flaw in your point. You're saying we shouldn't expect a big increase in targets/yards for T-Mac, but then shift to talking about averages with Chase when I point out the significant leap he took there once you factor in his missing games.  He saw an increase in targets in 5 less games, averages aside, he saw a significant increase in targets in his 2nd season, what he then did with those targets is actually irrelevant in this discussion. Puka seeing no increase is pointless, as he saw such an absurd amount of targets for a rookie, it's near impossible to see an increase. But the real issue in this post is that you think I'm proving your point by showing how Waddle had to share targets with Hill. Tyreek Hill was a 1st team All Pro who was 2nd in the NFL in yards that season. If you think Jaylen Waddle sharing targets with a 1st team All Pro and a future HOFer is even remotely in the same category as T-Mac needing to share targets with Coker... then you are certifiably insane, lol. If anything, you could make the argument that Coker is to Waddle as T-Mac is to Hill in that discussion (which would then lead to a serious increase in targets/yards for T-Mac).  But even that is insane, as neither T-Mac or Coker will be as good as Hill and Waddle respectively that season.  I love both of their potential, but c'mon now, T-Mac isn't getting 119 catches for 1,700 yards and Coker isn't getting 117 for 1,350 next season.
