If you buy an american car all the electronics are made in Mexico.  I know alot of Hondas and mazadas and every other kind of car are made in america as well but I am taking about GM cars and Fords and Dodge.  All the electronics for all of these cars are made in Mexico.  By the cheapest suppliers.  And it shows.  Just so you know.

The Nissan will have a better resale value, but if you keep your cars forever then this doesn't matter as much. As far as specs go they are quite comparable.

Are you looking at the base models, mid level or loaded?

About the only other small suv worth considering in that class would be the Hyundai Tucson.

I'd play hardball for a new Rogue, better milage.  I owned a 2008 Rogue for like 2 years.  It wasn't a terrible car, but the gas mileage was terrible (for me).  I drive a lot of interstate, and I needed something bigger at the time.  So I picked the Rogue because I have a great relationship with Modern Nissan of Lake Norman.  Got a great deal on the car.  Very roomy, very comfortable, the transmission was silky smooth, and it rode like an absolute boss (AWD).  I loved that.  But when it was time to put gas in it....24 MPG average (miles per tank/miles driven).  The computer kept saying it was 27-29, but it just killed my wallet.  Great car over all, but the mileage just sucked terribly.

The new Rogues say 33 MPG HWY, 20-something city.  Get the 2WD, not the AWD.  But that's just my advice.  I bought a '13 Altima, and I've loved it thus far.  I'm going to keep it until the wheels fall off.  Easily averages 33-35MPG combined.  Very comfortable.  I love the new Atlima.  Hopefully this new emphasis on making a driver happy is part of the new Rogue.  I initially said no, and walked out of the dealership before they called me back with the deal I wanted.  I'm going to use that tactic from now on!

My friend has had a Ford Escape forever, and he loves it.  I didn't find anything wrong with it when I've been in it.  I'll leave that to folks that have owned them.

Leather and sunroof are a must.

Thanks for the info

Is there are a good bit more space in the Rogue compared to your Altima?

I own a Ford Truck and love it.  Haven't had a single problem with it and it just passed 75,000 miles.  Wife drives a Fusion, and she is also pleased.  Not that we are a Ford family or anything, it just sort of worked out that way.

That being said, buy the one you like the best.  Odds are, if you do the regular maintenance on it,  it will last quite a while regardless of which one you choose.  But if it makes you feel better, buy the extended warranty.  They are usually a waste of money, but at least you will not have to worry about it until your car is over a 100,000 miles.

Looks like Escape rated higher overall with better owner satisfaction although Nissan had slightly higher reliability, but not huge difference, I pulled a side by side comparison on your two and 3 others from top rated, just going by ratings, the Forester is highest rated by a lot with Mazda CX5 up a top also with both getting the "recommended buy" designation. The Mazda looks very close to the two you are looking at, and with much better ratings, and almost two whole seconds faster 0-60, it may be worth a test drive. Also, if you wait just a few weeks, you should he able to get 2013 models at a discount when 2014 models arrive very soon. Hope that helps.

Looks like a Rogue is at dead bottom of owner satisfaction survey, also, below is the exact breakdown of reliability issues and those ares are not too bad, engine cooling and fuel system. On the ratings page with pros and cons, it had an alternative section that mentioned that Mazda CX5 as a good alternative again,
