So, according to PFF Kuechly is struggling

In his first 5 games, Luke Kuechly had 24 defensive stops w a +6.0 @PFF grade. In his last 3, he has just 4 stops w a -5.9 grade

I don't think Kuechly is struggling imo, it's just that the DT's are making the stops for him.

Other stats

  • Cam Newton had 0 completions and 2 INTs on 6 deep passes yesterday, but a 85.2 comp% and 117.4 QB rating on all other passes.

Great job by the Panthers O-line yesterday. Cam Newton was pressured on a career-low 21.1% of his drop backs.

Star Lotulelei bolstering his case for Def Rookie of the Year. He now has the 3rd-highest run defense grade of any DT. #Panthers

Gonzo burnt the poo out of him in on that TD. Not that it wouldnt happen to many others, but still, he had a very good day against imo and that should impact Luke.

Said it elsewhere: that wasn't Luke's fault. Mikell was supposed to be bracketing Gonzo high, but he went off the grid.

Now, in the run game, Luke has been having issues getting off blocks. One of Jackson's big runs that got Atlanta off the goal line came from Luke getting manhandled. It's something he still has to work on.

Most people including me were saying that cam didn't really have a bad game yesterday. Other than the deep passes cam played really well. I'm glad pff backed up my feelings on it. Regarding luke, yeah he has seemed to hit a wall. I just hope he breaks through it because we will need him now going forward more than ever.

Two things,

  1. the front 4 is sooo much better we aren't relying on Luke to make every play in the gaps.
  2. teams are scheming him and using gimmicks to keep him off the ball.

I'm not saying that I agree with their assessment but their assessment is not based on numbers of tackles.

    • Just worry about it next year.  Its that simple honestly.  its way to early to do what ifs.  I could see us trade/cut chuba and retain dowdle, I could see them let dowdle walk and go with Chuba/Etienne and Brooks, and I could see Dowdle and Chuba both stay and see what happens.  Hell, we still have 6 games left THIS season plus possible post-season...what if Rico or Chuba have an ACL tear or severe injury.  I DO NOT want that to happen, but stuff like that does happen.  Remember RB is the most injury prone position in the NFL due to the beating their bodies take so having some extra guys is never bad, just wish it hadn't come at the cost we paid to get him.
    • I think it’s cool that no one can be really certain what the outcome will be.  That’s a lot of progress! This is a real opportunity for us, I’d be happy with a competitive game and thrilled if we sack up for a W.
    • I could never found out who did the first surgery. That failed.      Nor who did the recent one.    Yiu can’t count on anything involving him. If it happens it’s a windfall at this point.
