importance of Hartsock for our running game...

We got a chance to see how much of an impact he makes on our ground game. The thought was with that we would be able to run on that defense, But no push and no holes at all.Sure they stacked the line at times, but we couldn't do anything when they didn't.Some respect for Ben and the value that he brings to our ground game.Big difference when he isn't lead blocking

I think our running backs are also over-rated.  DWill is mostly meh without amazing blocking, he can't make things "happen".  Stew should carry more of the loan as he creates more yards but is still getting used to stuff again.  Tolbert is our best RB imo.

Other than Cam it was atrocious considering their depleted defensive line. Not only this, but they ran over us the entire game.

Weird.

The only bright spot was Tolbert with the clutch third down. Why the hell didn't we use him more? Only four touches, and no screens?

Yep.  Definitely the most surprising aspect of the game last night for me.  I thought we were going to be able to establish the run early and force them to beat us through the air.  Instead, it was the opposite.  The ran the ball on us pretty much at will and completely shut down our run game.  The final stats were misleading because the only real running game we had last night was Cam Newton's scrambling ability.

I like our RB's but I'd trade them both (D Will & J Stew) to get AP. Of course I'd keep Barner and 1 other. So I'd have AP, Barner, ? and Tolbert as my FB. Of course this is only if we could afford AP, but getting rid of both contracts: D Will and J Stew would make it easier.

Every team in the league would trade their entire RB corps for AP.  Every single one of them.

Well, maybe not now with AP knocking on the door of 30, but you get my point.  He is hands down the best RB in the NFL.  Neither one of our guys are top 10 these days.  Maybe not even top 15.

everyone is dialing in to stop the running game against us...with the idea they are going to force Cam to beat them. its not working...that said our running backs are not helping themselves because they are slow to hit the hole and not breaking any tackles. I could see us drafting a younger cheaper back this off season. the tugboat is the only keeper

True that. As long as our o-line continue to block for Cam, our pass will create run opportunities...

Our run gets shut down pretty easy these days when good teams dial in on it. Virtually disappears.

Our rushing numbers have more to do with an OC committed to it and a QB that aids it.....than being very good at lining up and running the ball.

It hurts us greatly on a day the pass isn't clicking...

Just wanted to comment about NE's defensive gameplan.  I didnt hear but the tail end of Rivera's comments on Panther talk but he said something about NE commited to stopping the run by loading the box with 8 all game and held back one safety for mostly man coverage.  You guys act like our RBs should put up epic rushing stats every game.  We were still very effective this game.  8 for 11 on third down conversions??  Thats awesome, and 6 first downs (out of 20) were made on running plays.  Guys need to lay off somewhat.  The reason, imo, that Williams and Stewart are good still is because they've basically been worked half as much as AP, Gore, Lynch, etc.  Think Morris, Stacy, or Lacy will be as good in 4 years as they are now?

Edit: But, I do agree they are being overpaid, which is no one's fault that is currently affiliated with the team other than JR.

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
    • Well I guess he should stop playing football. This was his defining moment and chance to prove he was generational and he failed. What a waste of football life..
