SB Nation slams JR

so what i've gotten from this thread so far is that meeting jerry one time at a tailgate = knowing him personally well enough to pass judgement on his moral character, and building wealth elevates you beyond reproach so long as other people enjoy the bi-products of that success. i've also learned that a few anecdotes from some people who knew him back in the day is a sufficient sample size for which the sum total of knowable richardsonness is expendable.

thanks, huddle!

Just curious Phil: How much weight do you give to a random blogger who's had no direct experience with him at all writing a post based on a facial expression on TV?

If you wanna go by anecdotes, fine. But why then do things like the good he's done for guys like Olsen, going to the funeral of a fan he didn't know, or keeping his employees employed during the lockout when others were downsizing not count?

For the record, PL probably has more direct experience with him than anyone on here. Explain to me why I'd listen to random internet people over her.

Ya gotta give me something better than "rich equals evil".

I'm on the fence about JR. He's got his good moments and his bad ones. I haven't forgotten some of the things he said earlier this year regarding the stadium issue. I'm still pissed off over those. I also haven't forgotten some of the good deeds he's done, including (but not limited to) actually getting us a team.

I wish some of these morons would explain to a Steve Smith or Jon Beason at how awful a human JR is. They'd probably come back with their face rearranged. The lack of respect for someone who was instrumental in creating the team you people are allegedly fans of is appalling.

What does him creating a team have to do with who he is as a person? Do you think Redskins fans should put segregationist George Preston Marshall on a pedastal and insulate him from all criticism?

I know next to nothing about JR and don't give a poo either way. But some of the arguments you people are defending him with are absurd.

And btw MadHatter's "You hate him because he's rich" is the exact same thing he whines about when people say "You only hate Obama because he's black."

( " But save just a little bile for Jerry Richardson, a poisonous, vile old miser who has nothing but bile for you" )

That is really hitting below the belt by the author of the article, "Matt Ufford", who has probably never had any personal dealing with Jerry Richardson. My guess is has never even spoken to Jerry..

True about what? You mean the man who was so EVIL to fly out with Greg Olsen and his Wife on his private jet to a heart specialist for Olsen's unborn child? Or the fact Greg was so touched by Mr. Richardson's actions that he gave the child "Jerry" as his middle name? How about the fact he has been like a grandfather to Steve Smith? What about that time he attended a long-time PSL Owner's funeral? How about you and the rest of the fuging ignorant hypocrites get your facts straight

Whatever. He has been a below average owner.

The thing is we are fans of his team....If we want to criticize him we can. Because and the end of the day, we still love the guy for brining us an NFL team. The jack Wagon that wrote that blog is a know nothing douce. So fug him.

I am not a fan of Richardson as an owner.  I think he is a great business man, that knows how to make the Panthers profitable for his investors.  I will never forgive him for the crap he pulled in 2010.  I'm sorry.  That proved to me that he cares more about money and profit than winning.  I don't want that in an owner.  And of course he's going to take care of his players.  They are his product.  They are business assets.  Greg Olsen helps him make money!

He put us through a rebuilding year in 2010 so we could start out on the right foot to develop a long-term winning franchise. Not sure how that proves that he cares more about money and profit than winning (btw, a year in which your revenues are going to be down big time since the team is doing so poorly).

If anything it proves that he cares more about winning than money and profit.

    • Not really. It all depends upon perspective. You can draft quality OTs high every year. They have one of the lowest bust rates by position. DTs, less so, but good ones still come along at a regular clip. With WRs, it's simply best to draft one in the first round if you want a legit play maker. Moreover, WR is going to set you back more than OT or DT at really all statuses, meaning JAG receivers are going to make more than JAG OTs and DTs, and elite receivers will make substantially more than elite OTs or DTs. I would also argue that it's much harder to find a franchise level OT or DT that can have an altering impact upon the game. So, if you don't believe they can, you may as well wait for day 2 or 3. That's why sticking to your board is probably the wisest thing to do. If you're not committed that the value is there, then what are you doing? Lastly, I don't think you should necessarily draft in a vacuum, but you must look at each team from year to year. People want to make them the same, but they're different. You have to start over every year and identify where the strengths and weaknesses are. You can't say, "Well we drafted [so and so] last year or two years ago, so we'll just draft this this year." That's not realistic and it can be highly counterproductive, especially in light of the reason that you should be trying to use FA to set up the draft.
    • If you read through his stuff, he's had a raging hate-boner for the Carolina Panthers the likes of which would make many long-tenured Huddlers blush. Every win was "yeah but" and every loss was "see I told you so".
    • Let me preface this by saying I've read WalterFootball on and off for 20 years. That's an indictment on my decision-making, and it's more than fair to be questioned.  However, the days of reading what's become weak ragebait have drawn to a close after he re-graded the 2025 NFL Draft's first round. He gave T-Mac a C on draft night. What was his re-grade for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year?  Carolina Panthers: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona – C Grade One-Year Grade: C+ Grade Tetairoa McMillan won Offensive Rookie of the Year, but only by default after Emeka Egbuka vanished in the second half of the season. McMillan was good, and was certainly limited by Bryce Young’s mediocrity, but there are still concerns about his work ethic and passion for football. If he doesn’t progress in the coming years, we’ll know why. Original Write-up: Wow, our Panthers source did not pan out for once. Jalon Walker was heavy chalk to go here, but the Panthers decided to draft a No. 1 receiver instead. While this fills a need, I’m concerned with Tetairoa McMillan’s work ethic, which is something you never want to hear from a first-round prospect, especially one who is chosen in the top 10. Bryce Young needs this, and McMillan is talented, but will he give 100 percent at the next level? Also, what about the defense, which was the worst in the NFL last year? https://walterfootball.com/nfldraftgrades2025.php
